Billabong has released the official dates for the Pro Junior Series in Bali for 2008, announcing a return to the prime locations of Keramas, Kuta Reef and Canggu for the three event circuit. The inaugural 2007 series dished up some of the tastiest waves the juniors had seen in a long time and 2008 will again see a return to the same venues. The events are open to any global competitor willing to try their hand against the local Indo rippers, you just need to be aged 20 and under. While the events are not ASP sanctioned, (no ratings points) what better way to spend three months than chillaxing in Bali, chewing Nasi Goreng, sampling the local festivities and getting piped with only three other guys in the water.
February 14th is for girls not guys. A traitor named St. Valentine started this whole thing off years ago, big business having taken the ball and run with it. Valentine’s Day in Bali is less strenuous on the wallet than it might be in a western country. Last night I stopped by Roxy, the girl’s surf wear store in Kuta nad picked up a cute little t-shirt for Ika (220,000rp), plus a bar of Fruit & Nut. The girl at Circle K grinned when I chucked the chocolate on the counter and said “Valentine?”
Its not the 4th of July, but it is the 17th of August. In Indonesia that means a day of national pride, celebrating Indonesia’s Independence from the Dutch.
Nusa Dua has a expo going on right now featuring a display of export products, and cultural performances. The expo started August 9th and runs till August 20th.
Here is a schedule of events at the BigExpo:
Tumpek is one of the most interesting of the coincidence dates. Tumpek occurs six times in every Pawukon and each of these dates is separately important.
Being a great lover of the arts and forever in galleries and museums, it is the art of photography that is my passion. Travel anywhere in Bali and the photographic opportunities are endless. The same can be said for the rest of Indonesia and in fact, South-East Asia. Currently there are two excellent photographic exhibitions in Bali. Here’s more from Bali Discovery.
Bali is a literary destination! How about that! The Ubud Readers & Writers Festival starts today and is growing into an event that is showing up on more people’s radar scopes. Here’s more from the Jakarta Post.
Here is a list of the Public Holidays in Bali in 2006.
Today I noticed many Balinese people in traditional dress and found out it is Purnama, full moon. Last night Ika nd I heard a solo female voice wafting over the wall from the banjar pavillion across from Pura Desa Seminyak (the village temple), and there will be more worshiping tonight.
Bali is without a doubt an artist's island of inspiration. The multitude of colours across the landscape, in a market or at a temple ceremony are pleasing to the eye and the pallet.
