Brother of Gordon Ramsey on trial in Bali

The brother of British chef, Gordon Ramsey, has appeared in Denpasar District Court today on charges of drugs possession. Ronnie Ramsey aged 39, was caught with 100 milligrams of heroin a couple of months ago, outside a supermarket in Tuban and has been holed up in Polda, the police cells in Denpasar.

Australian PM to visit Bali

Australian PM John Howard will visit Bali later this week to meet Indonesian President SBY. Mr Howard will open a special eye hospital dedicated to the victims of Bali terrorism. Here’s more from the Jakarta Post.

According to some sources the number of Australian tourists visiting Bali has doubled in the last few months. From my perspective that is entirely accurate, with many bars and restaurants packed in the Kuta / Seminyak area. Last night Blue Ocean restaurant was fully booked and Trattoria on Jl. Oberoi was similarly packed. Great to see business bouncing back.

Six members of the Bali Nine heroin smuggling gang are appealing their death sentences at the Constitutional Court in Jakarta. What seemed like a ‘hail-Mary’ to some people, has turned into an extremely important legal debate for Indonesia as a whole.

Bali drug arrests highlight risk of the party scene

Recent arrests of foreigners in Bali for drug offenses highlights the danger of the party scene. According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, 3 foreign men from Italy, Australia and Belgium were arrested at a Kerobokan villa during a raid on a party.
