Nick and I finally had our situation sorted enough to get some scooters to make for easier and quicker transport. At noon we met Mark at Made’s Warung in Seminyak.
Since I arrived a week ago, the fan in our room has had a crescendoing squeak to it. By the time it is on full blast, it has a loud squeak about it. Last night was possibly the worst it squeaked. It sounded like a train. Nick and I sleep like logs and it didn’t really bother us.
But we found out that it bothered our neighbors. Nyoman (from the guesthouse) told us first thing in the morning that he had to fix it. And when Nick came back to the room after breakkie, the 3 Greek girls in the room next to us were speaking in Greek, and Nick said that he could tell they were looking at him, maybe in a little bit of disgust.
I promptly stomped over to their room and yelled,
Not having an office right now we go to Internet Outpost in the evenings to handle work and e-mail. There was a graphic design project that was overdue so Sean and I took the laptop down there and knocked out some images to get things moving. I must admit that looking for houses and being in a new enviroment means I’m mentally out of the design mode, but will be better off once we get a place and a desk.
We have another big one coming up.
We are thinking about getting satellite internet access in the house we rent and the taxi took us to Global net up on Jalan Kerobokan. Here's Sean outside keeping cool.
It has been a great/helluva week. I have so many possible blog posts to put up, I do not know where to start. So I will just spewwwww.
Today Sean & I went out to Global Net again to check out their connection and scout new places for rent in the Seminyak area. We set up one appointment for Friday and are meeting a lady called Mila at the Krakatoa cafe at 10am.
After walking around on Wednesday in the scorching sun we made an effort to use our brain and not our feet, taking a cab instead. There are a variety of cabs in Bali and the blue cabs are cheaper than the white ones. Both are metered.
So I have been here for almost 72 hours - but it feels longer since Nick and I have been at it since I arrived. Our schedule is chock full. We have been planning on coming to open up BootsnAll Bali for almost 8 months before we physically arrived. We planned as much as we could think of and also knew that somethings just could not be planned - we had to learn by doing.
In North America, as we all know, things move fast business wise. You want a new cell phone - there are 100’s of places to find prices etc. You want anything, it is never that far away.
We expected to not be able to move as fast as we do in North America. And we are correct on that point so far. We expected getting adjusted to culture, the way of doing business here, prices, internet speeds would not be as easy as moving from Eugene Oregon to Portland Oregon.
Since I am trying to stay up with Nick to blend right into the new time zone, Nick and I went for a walk down to Kuta Beach - we cruised down about 8 mile - oops, I mean a single mile, and then around Legian (next to Kuta) and Kuta, stopping every few blocks for a beer. (Hey, I gotta stay active if I am gonna stay awake)
