Bali Getting Office In Bali
Kuta Beach 3 years ago
On this day 3 years ago I ate breakfast at Cafe Moka in Seminyak then went to Internet Outpost on Poppies Lane II in Kuta. In those days I did not have home internet access, which made me more social, but less productive.

Tech problems and frustration in Bali
I’m pissed off, because my piece of shit Alpha Smart won’t let me me download any of the articles I typed this evening. The funny thing is one of the articles was about what a great machine the Alpha Smart is. Do you now believe in Murphy’s Law?

At the printers in Legian
We next hit Internet Outpost for a couple of hours followed by Taman Sari restaurant for some lunch. Sean ordered Cap Cay ( steamed veg and rice with some meat tossed in ) and I got the sweet and sour chicken. For $2.50 it wasn’t bad. Our friends Katut and Putra were in good spirits, the restaurant being mostly empty.
Before lunch I had done several interviews with locals about the bombing which were interesting and which I’ll be unveiling at a later date.

Introducing Ebong to our place in Seminyak
After working away at Internet Outpost, Sean and I rode back to Seminyak and had arranged to meet up with a Ebong (his name means tadpole) at a local bar down the street. We picked this place as it’s pretty relaxed (actually when we go it’s empty as the nightlife around here starts at 11pm) and they have a backgammon set. The owner is a lady from Austria who is married to a local. We forgot the camera so Sean volunteered to go back and get it while I set up the backgammon board and ordered a large Bintang with 2 glasses (really tough work out here!).

Our house in Seminyak
After much searching we settled on a place in Seminyak and got to move our stuff in today. Here are a couple of pics of Sean relaxing in a bamboo chair and my cheap mosquito net set up.
More to come as we arrange stuff and get to spend some time there.

Looking back to Feb 2nd 2003
Moving into my first house in Bali 3 years ago happened on this day in 2003. I remember clearly living in Ronta Bungalows in Kuta with Sean, the 2 twin bed room costing something like 35,000rp per night. We were just getting set up in Bali and were lucky to have a place like Ronta that was, cheap, handy and low stress. Back then Kuta was relatively quiet and Ronta had only a couple of other guests, including a noisy Italian woman next door.

Internet access in Seminyak Bali
Internet access in Bali is one of the tricky things I have to deal with. For my first 2 years here I used internet cafés and 2 of my favourites are Internet Outpost on Poppies Lane II in Kuta and Global Xtreme on Jl. Raya Kerobokan in Kerobokan.

Workmen in the house
I spent a couple of hours at the house this morning waiting for Made #27 & #34 from Bali Land & Houses to swing by with workmen to fix some of the minor things that we had mentioned. Sean and I visited a local expat cafe for breakfast before hitting Global Extreme cyber cafe along Jalan Raya Kerobokan. I split after an hour and met the guys waiting outside the house.

Bali factory tour
Monday was debt paying day, we owe Ronta Bungalows for a couple of weeks plus our motorcycle place. So on the way down Jalan Legian, Sean and I stopped at BNI bank to get into our safety deposit box. We arrived at 7.45am and were the first customers. To get into the box I simply add my name to the list of visitors that day and show my card. I have a key and the teller has the other key necessary, we go into the vault, both put in our keys, open the box and she leaves.

Moving our gear to Seminyak
This was a day we had been anticipating for sometime, getting into our place. Nyoman the manager of Ronta Bungalows told us we can pay him tommorrow for our room ( we have a bill for the last week or 2 ).
