Sanur Beach began offering shoppers a new way to do their weekly purchases of home-made breads and organic farm produce through the trial-launch of a new concept Farmers Market according to an article in the Bali Discovery.
Sanur is located on the coast 18km NE of Kuta. You can get to Sanur from Kuta quickly via the Bypass. Sanur used to be a small fisihing village and still has elements of that. Riding around on my motorbike I see some wonderful chunk of undeveloped land covered in forest. This land is beyond my reach though, with owners probably waiting for the next Hyatt or Conrad to come along and make them instantly rich.

Monday morning Angie and I had an appointment to visit a wine distributor in Sanur. Angie has a wedding business, Bali Paradise Weddings and has researched wine and spirits. Last year she found a great little place on the Bypass, heading to Sanur, that is semi-secret. Located 100 meters before Macro supermarket, this unmarked place offers great prices on wine, spirits and other 'bule' friendly items like ketchup. Open from 10am-4pm Mon-Fri, 10am-1pm Sat and closed Sun, they allow you to stroll in and buy a bottle or a case.
The Cat & Fiddle pub in Sanur can be considered the last bastion of British culture in Bali. Seminyak is Euro central with Italian and French restaurants, pizza parlors and Greek places. Well there is a fish & chips joint on Jl. Oberoi but British food is not tops on any menu. The Cat & Fiddle serves an assortment of Engligh and Irish favorites including Irish Bangers and mash ( 38,000rp), Fish & Chips (28,000rp ) and Mixed Grill (68,000rp). The menu is divided up into categories which are: International Breakfast, Sandwiches & Snacks, Starters, Main courses, Desserts.
Back in the 1980's there was a place just north of Denpasar called Tohpati. It was here, in several adjoining buildings, artisans of all mediums could display their crafts for sale. It was a place where craftsmen from all over Bali came together as a community.
A recent article in the Beat Magazine, the nightlife rag that circulates here at Circle K's, pointed out a cool venue in Sanur. The 'cool' part regards the temperature, not so sure about the bar itself as I haven't been there.
Sanur Bali has a decent beach and was really the first resort area in Bali. Sanur appeals to European tourists and is family friendly with good hotels, plenty of shops and places to eat and a lower stress environment than Kuta. I parked my motorbike at the beach close to the Hyatt hotel and walked along to the Stiff Chili bar. The Stiff Chili serves Storm beer and a range of food. On the beachside footpath to Stiff Chili I passed a small shop selling paintings. Agus Shop features work by Balinese artist I Ketut Teker who was sleeping when I arrived. His wife was arranging the paintings which featured traditional Balinese scenes of ceremonies, in vivid colors.
Friday night I road down to the Jazz Bar & Grille in Sanur to meet an Aussie friend of mine Richard from QLD. Richard is a muso and is always interested to check the local scene. We arrived way too early around 8pm and the music was scheduled for 10pm. After having a beer and catching up we decided to go to JP's Warung in Seminyak, about 200 meters from my house!
Bali has a Bypass that can help you get around quickly once you figure out how it works. Known locally as Bypass Ngurah Rai, it was named after Balinese hero Gusti Ngurah Rai of which there is a statue next to the Bypass in Tuban.
