Where to stay in Munduk Bali

The cool thing about Munduk is the weather, its cool! If the heat and humidity of Kuta are getting you down, and Ubud just seems like another tourist trap, Munduk will be a breath of fresh air. There is a small selection of places to stay, enabling you to relax, take it easy, get used to the slow village pace of life and explore the mountain area, on the northern slopes.

Sumbawa: The dividing between Asia and the Pacific

Sumbawa is the island to the east of Lombok. The Indonesian archipelago is a string of pearls that strech from Aceh to Papua, and are, for the most part, easy to travel across. From Bali to Lombok is 4-5 hours, on the ferry from Padangbai. From Lebuhan Lombok to Pototano harbor in W. Sumbawa is 3-4 hours.

Bali Botanical Gardens: Candikuning

A ride to to Bedugal can take a pleasant side track in Candi Kuning. The Bali Botanical Gardens are located to the west of the main road, and are accessed by turning left at the corn knob statue, and heading down a small side road, just south of the market area.

Waka Shorea: Jungle Huts in Bali

The Bali Barat National Park (Taman Nasional Bali Barat) has one very nice place to stay. Its called Waka Shorea, and is located in the middle of dence forest. The bungalows are on stilts, built in an eco-friendly way, without destroying the forest by clear cutting. The whole are is populated by wild animals including deer, boars, birds and other animals.

Bali highlands scenic walks: Wongayagede / Jatiluwih

The highlands of Bali offer a multitude of routes that are perfect for a slow cruise, in a car, or on a motorbike. My recent trip to Jatiluwih, which took about 7 hours roundtrip from Seminyak.

Munduk & Tamblingan in the highlands of Bali

Lake Tamblingan sits on the northern side of Gunung Batukaru, one of the largest volcanoes in Bali. Most visitors who pass through this area, do so in a tourist bus, stopping at maybe 1 or 2 places for a photo, then off to their next activity.

Yeh Gangga Bali: Where to stay

Yeh Gangga beach is 10km SW of Tabanan. The attraction of this area is natural beauty, with rice fields leading down to the
beach, volcanos in the distance and a rugged, empty coastline.

The Tegal Bunder Trail: Bali Barat National Park

The Bali Barat National Park (Taman Nasional Bali Barat) has a few short hikes. In order to hike in the National Park, you must obtain a permit from the National Park HQ at Cekik, or the National Park office at Labuan Lalang. The price of the permit used to be 2,500rp a couple of years ago and may have risen, although its likely to be no more than a couple of dollars. You must hire a guide, rates are around 120,000rp for a 2 hour hike.

Gilimanuk: The port to Java

Travellers visiting Bali may be tempted to visit Java, the attractions being Mt. Bromo in east Java, Solo and Yogyakarta in Central Java. The way I got to java back in 1993, was to take a bus from Kuta, out through Negara, to the port of Gilimanuk.

Exploring in the Jatiluwih area in the highlands of Bali

Zooming up towards Bedugal I didn’t really manage to get anything to eat. Realizing that local Balinese food might be the only thing on offer, on quiet coutry lanes, I took the opportunity to stop at a roadside place in the Luwus area. Along this main road, are several large restaurants that cater to tour groups.
