Sunday evening Jevon was crying more than usual and Ika thinks he might have a fever. I went out to get food for her from Warung Murah, the simple looking place on Jl. Double Six that knocks out great food. Her packet of rice, multiple vegetables, tempe and shrimp cost 11,000rp. I ate there earlier today and had piles of potatoes, a huge chicken breast, fish and veg for an equally decent price.
Many places in Bali shows pirated DVD's in order to attract an audience. It makes sense, you pick up a copy of the latest movie and advertise it outside your place as if its an event. You'll see this all over Kuta and the tourists love it. I have seen a few flicks this way while eating my dinner.
Wednesday night Ika, Jevon and I went out to dinner at Rumours in Seminyak. WE were joined by Ray and his new wife Wayan and Angie from Balarat, Australia. Our table was reserved for 7pm, a good time to arrive as the place was only half full. Rumours attracts the expat crowd and tourists who are staying in Seminyak.
Friday night I road down to the Jazz Bar & Grille in Sanur to meet an Aussie friend of mine Richard from QLD. Richard is a muso and is always interested to check the local scene. We arrived way too early around 8pm and the music was scheduled for 10pm. After having a beer and catching up we decided to go to JP's Warung in Seminyak, about 200 meters from my house!
The Bottle Shop in Seminyak is something of a legend among expats. Located just down from Bale Bali on Jl. Kunti the Bottle Shop is the home bar of the Bali Geckos Aussie Rules team. Thank God they were not there when I visited.
The sun is shining here in Seminyak and its feels like paradise. Jevon had a touch of fever but I think he is okay. I was watching him sleeping and like Ika he can sleep with his big eyes partly open. Deep in sleep, his eyes were moving in every direction and his facial expressions were in constant change.
I am sitting in front of my machine wondering what I am going to write. I have just come from a sports bar on Jl. Seminyak where I are Rendang Bali (beef in spicy sauce for around 25,000rp). While there I watched Chelsea hammer WBA in the English Premier League. I hate Chelsea, they have bought 2 teams worth of good players and showboat how easy thy can beat lower teams. Their days at the bottom of the pile will come again so enjoy this brief moment of success Chelsea fans.
People come to Bali for a good time and navigating the array of restaurants, bars, clubs and events can be tricky. Fortunately there is The Beat, a locally made magazine that comes out every 2 weeks highlighting what has gone on before and what will be happening soon.
Monday night Ika and I went out for a bite to eat at JPs Warung on Jl. Dhyana Pura in Seminyak. JPs is known as a live music joint and features mainly Indonesian bands 7 nights a week starting at 9pm (8pm on Sundays. Ika had already eaten and I ordered a grilled tuna for 36,500rp, that came with crunchy fries and bok choy. Just the thing for a late healthy light meal. Ika a strawberry lassi which she said was thick and good.
Seminyak is 2 miles north of Kuta directly up Jl. Legian. The area has developed amazingly over the last 5 years and now it is expat and restaurant central, not to mention the center of the best party scene on the island.
