Bali Legian Restaurants

Mama’s German Restaurant: Legian Bali

Mama’s German Restaurant is a dedicated German restaurant, located on Jl. Legian in Legian. Mama’s German Restaurant features, a street side pork knuckle roast, bar, tables and life size cutout of Saddam Hussein in lederhausen. There is also an inside restaurant area. Prices at Mama’s aren’t bad, and if you need a taste of that good old fashioned ‘meat lover’s food, there’s no better place.

Meeting Laura and the crew at Blue Ocean in Legian Bali

Friday night Laura emailed me and invited me to join her and Mickey for dinner at Blue Ocean in Legian. The time she suggested was 7.30pm so I jumped in the shower and headed down there.

Miramar Garden Restaurant: Jl. Padma Utara Legian Bali

Miramar Garden Restaurant in Legian is a smart little place. Walking past I looked at their menu baords and thought I should check it out. I liked the relaxing feel of the place and the low music probably helped. Open from 8am - 11pm, Miramar serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Fiesta Bowl at Sin City in Seminyak Bali

Tuesday morning I rode down the street to Sin City, the flashy sports bar on Jl. Dhyana Pura. My reason was a game of American college football was on tv and I was hoping to see some of it. The game was the Fiesta Bowl, played in Tempe Arizona, between Notre Dame and Ohio State. I arrived as the last quarter of the game started. Sin City was empty as usual and I ordered ‘eggs benedict’ for 14,000rp. Strangely the coffees they served were more expensive that the breakfast, with a latte being 15,000rp. I just stuck with the eggs.

Healthy juice at Blue Ocean Bali

Ever since Canucki Chris mentioned the ‘boiled orange juice’ that I have been drinking after working out, it hasn’t tasted as good. Juice shouldn’t be boiled, that doesn’t sound good. Replacing the boiled OJ with something better could mean shopping for fruit and blending it at home. When I am finished working out I am sweating like a bar owner on Nyepi. I just want to get something into me and cool down.

Meeting Chantelle and Moman from Rum Jungle Bali

One of the first bars in Legian was Rum Jungle. One of the streets that connects Jl. Legian with the beach is informally known as Rum Jungle Rd. This afternoon I talked with the owners, Chantelle from Switzerland and Moman from Indonesia. Rum jungle opened 16 years ago when you literally had to go through jungle to get there. I know in 1993 I stayed in an expats house in the area with double thick mosquito nets, huge Dutch furniture, like something out of a Humphrey Bogart movie.

Nasi padang: A great way to stretch your money in Bali

Food in Bali is like Alice in Wonderland. Nothing makes sense. You can get a pound of rice and vegetables for next to nothing, and pay 100,000rp for a knat-sized portion of something dribbled with French sauce.

Sushi in Legian Bali

Legian is in the heart of budget family package land. Jl. Legian has handicraft shops, knock off clothes shops and a few decent restaurants.
