Bali Legian Restaurants

Sheppy’s Bar and Restaurant

mini-clbo8-b-030.jpgI am always on the lookout for a good warung or restaurant that serves delicious cuisine wherever I travel in the archipelago and on my last sojourn to Bali, I discovered a great place. Sheppy’s restaurant is located on Jalan Melasti in Legian and I must have passed this place many times but never really noticed it. Across the road from the traditional markets, Sheppy’s is owned by an Australian and offers not only excellent food, but great service from a friendly staff. I particularly liked Sheppy’s because of its openness to the street making it a nice to place to people-watch, enjoy a meal or just a drink. The restaurant is very clean and one thing that really impressed me was the toilet. It was super-duper clean and not like you find in many places on the island of Bali. Candika and I ate at Sheppy’s many times after discovering the place and each time I was definitely not disappointed. The menu far is a good selection of Indonesia and western foods, all cooked to perfection and reasonably priced.

Blue Ocean Beach Bali

blue ocean beachBlue Ocean Beach is a place that draws tourists and expats alike. The beach itself is nothing to shout about, but the easy access to Legian and Seminyak (location, location, location) and the array of place to eat and drink, means Blue Ocean Beach is always busy. While working out today, I snapped a photo of the street where I park my motorbike. AS you can see, parking is tight, one reason I ride a bike instead of driving a car. In the last year, the banjar has started charging motorbikes 1,000rp for the privelage of parking along this stretch of beach.

Guide to Padma area in Legian Bali

Last year I wrote about the beach / surfing break at Jl. Padma, in Legian. For beginning / intermediate surfers, who are tired of Kuta Beach / Halfway etc., but like the idea of being downtown, Padma is a good option.

Dapur Alam

mini-clbo8-b-896.jpgQuite accidentally I read about this new eatery in a local magazine a few months ago. Dapur Alam opened in February and has been steadily increasing its clientele mainly due to the high quality of food and, I consider this to be the reason why it has become so popular now with locals, domestic and foreign tourists. Dapur Alam means ‘natural kitchen’ in Bahasa Indonesia. Located on Jalan Patih Jelantik, Dapur Alam is nestled in a gully and can be easily missed. However, you will find most taxi drivers know about the place. I went there with my Javanese wife and a Swiss friend of ours who considered himself a connoisseur of Javanese cuisine having spent some months in Jakarta. The first impression of Dapur Alam is one of warmth mainly because of the two open-air pavilions where people sit and eat, and the general friendliness of the staff who come from various islands in the archipelago. The seating arrangements are purely simple. Wooden benches with mock, marble-topped tables give Dapur Alam that, well, natural ambience. There is even a special playground area set aside for kids.

Barcelona Bar & Restaurant in Legian Bali

This evening I was heading down to Warung Murah for my usual plate of Indonesian food when something inside of me said “I want salad.” Riding from Jl. Double Six through to Jl. Padma Utara, I spotted a new place called Barcelona.

Seaside Restaurant: Legian Bali

seaside restaurantSeaside Restaurant is located in the same location as the old Cafe Warna. The restaurant sits in front of the relatively new Seaside gym, the place that is responsible for my huge ‘wheels’ and bulging ‘guns’. My sister-in-law told me the food was good there, so I take that as a good recommendation.

Here’s what the menu looks like

La Monde: Pizza Restaurant, Seafood & Grill in Legian Bali

la mondeLa Monde is a streetside place on Jl. Padma, that tries hard to please the tastes of the mixed bag of tourists, that Bali gets. Today I stepped in to sample their food. Lunch for me was a Beef ala Szechuan (stir fried tenderloin, in a szechuan spice sauce, with red peppers and steamed rice) for 29,000rp. It was good and I enjoyed the red chili pepper that came with it, Really put me where I wanted to be! La Monde isn’t a fancy place, more like a warung. There is an upstairs section at the back and while I was there, a couple of Aussie families dined downstairs. La Monde is open for breakfast, luck and dinner, with the following menu.

Ibu Ayu: Good value Indonesian food in Legian Bali

Looking around for Indonesian food this afternoon (Ocha’s Warung in closed for 2 weeks), I strolled down Jl. Legian to Ibu Ayu (mother Ayu). Ibu Ayu is a simple place that serves a selction of items including tempe, tahu (tofu), sapi rendang (beef in sauce), and other favourites.
