Bali Kuta Nightlife
Travelling as an Aussie in Bali
Australians really were ones who drove the tourist boom in Bali, with surfers arriving in the 1970’s followed by waves of package tourists.
Kuta Beach was, and still is the epicenter of the Australian tourist scene in Bali, with Tuban to the south and Legian to the north also being favourites.

ESC - Urban Food Service, Kuta Bali
One of the new additions to the Kuta scene is ESC, a 24 hour snack bar. Located on Jl. Legian, across from Poppies Lane II, ESC offers a place for a hot coffee in the morning, cold drink in the afternoon, and midnight snack while out partying. The menu includes bread items, cakes, sandwiches, juices, coffee and smoothies.

How Legian has changed since 1993
On my first trip to Bali in 1993 I ran into and American friend who had been coming to Bali for a few years. Jumping on his motorbike I got to see a bit of the expat scene back then, not just the Kuta bar scene.

AIDS Trend Increases in Indonesia
I can well remember when AIDS first came to the fore rumours abound that you could catch the disease by just kissing and I can recall those awful Grim Reaper advertisements on the television.

Megalodon - Restaurant Kuta Bali
Another fairly recent arrival in Kuta is Megalodon, a restaurant situated next to Maccaroni on Jl. Legian. People might remember a coffee shop called Dome, well that is now Megalodon. One of the ways you can identify Megalodon is a young lady named Komang, who stands outside in a French maid outfit, offering the menu. I stopped by and checked out the menu which went as follows.

Buddha’s Belly: Pool players paradise in Kuta Bali
Buddha’s Belly is a restaurant, lounge bar and pool hall. It is located on the bottom end of the Sunset Rd. If you are at the roundabout at Simpang Siur, and head towards Seminyak, Buddha’s Belly is a couple of hundred yards up the road on the left side. Open from 11am-1am, Buddha’s Belly serves up some good food according to other Bali mags, and today I checked out the pool area.

Sharyn's trip to Bali - November 2005: Bars
Due to excessive shopping activity we didn't do any clubbing, but did managed to visit a few bars and pubs. Obviously KuDeTa is still there at the top of the list – although I can't decide whether I prefer later afternoon or full evening-it's a bit of a wave-watching versus stargazing toss-up.
