Bali Kintamani Area Guide

Accommodation in Kintamani Bali

A trip to Kintamani is 3 hours, one way from Kuta. Some people like to do that on day trip, but others prefer to stay in the area and have a chance to relax, look around and try to escape the mad tourist rush during the day.

The Holy Springs of Tirta Empul: Tampaksaring, Bali

North of Tampaksaring on the road to Kintamani you will see the turnoff to Tirta Empul. It is to here that the Balinese come from all over the island on pilgrimages to bathe in the holy springs and thus cleanse themselves spiritually.

Mystics in the Mountains: Bali

I was reading this fabulous article in the JP yesterday but the only problem was that the authors name did not appear on the article. I naturally assume it is Balinese writer Made Wijaya by the way the article is written and the content.

Hiking the rim of Batur crater in Kintamani Bali: part VI

Heading back the same way I was dreading every step as my boot was rubbing and a nice blister had developed on my heel. The time was 4.30pm and I figured I'd have not too much daylight left when I got back to the bike. Fortunately heading back seemed to be slightly down hill so I made it faster than expected. The bike was standing in the place I left it all by itself with no locals around. Pulling on my fleece as I could feel a chill coming on I mounted the bike and began the slow, 1st gear crawl back up to the main road though pot-holed lanes.

Kintamani: What’s the deal with it?

A day trip to Kintamani, promises mountains, lakes, the chance to get out of of Kuta and see some of Bali. The reality of a trip to Kintamani is a 3 hour ride along main roads, parking next to other tour buses, eating lunch and the main tourist restaurant, overlooking the lake. You will be accosted by sarong and souvenir sellers, and that’s without venturing into the crater.

Backpacking in Bali

To get into the backpacking mentality, you have to think longterm. Backpackers are often on a year long, around the world trip. All over the world, guesthouses and youth hostels are the places backpackers aim for, simplicity and cost being the key. Even as I get older, I still feel most comfortable checking into a cheap guest house in Bali, as its low stress, and I feel as though I have the time to take it easy, explore, and do whatever without the meter running to fast.

Life in a Volcano: North Bali

There are a multitude of picturesque areas in Bali and, many spectacular. One of these beautiful areas is around Gunung Batur in the north-east. A year ago Nick and myself along with others took a road trip to the area.

Hiking the rim of Batur crater in Kintamani Bali: part V

lake081605.jpgMt. Batur is 1717m high and the crater rim has to be 1000m. The air is thinner and the sunlight stronger. I plastered my face with sunscreen and was covers with long pants, hat and long sleeves. My face got a bit of toasting but nothing serious. After a couple of hours walking I passed a guy filling a rectangular whole with water. He told me he was keeping fish in there, the water came from a pipe jutting out of the hill. He said there was some kind of pump somewhere. This area, while dry seemed fertile and forested. The end of my trek was the very top end of the crater. Sitting in the shade I could see the lake and the Bali Aga village of Trunyan on the left side, hugging the coastline. A local told me its is possible to follow the train around all the way to Trunyan. The outside northern edge of the crater is far more appealing than the tin roofed Trunyan, but if I had the time I would like to check out that part of the hike.
