Legian was the up and coming tourist area in the late 80’s, early 90’s. As far as expats were concerned Goa Cafe, located on Jl. Legian and Double Six, was the center of the universe and in the days before internet and cell phones, was the place you’d find people. In the years since Legian has become a mass of budget- mid range accommodation and family restaurants, relying heavily on the Australian market. Blue Ocean Beach is about as cosmopolitan as Legian gets, the 200 meter strip of bars and bechside restaurants drawing tourists from all over including a selection of long time expats.
Here is a short guide to accommodation in Sanur, featuring budget, mid-range and luxury accommodation options.
Ubud is often the first place that Kuta based tourists visit on a day trip. It offers a totally different scene which only gets better the longer you stay. The great thing about Ubud is that downtown is loaded with accommodation options to fit every budget. Jl. Hanoman and Jl. Kajeng, both downtown offer handy accommodation for people without transport. Jl. Penestenan slightly out of town is one of the many other options for a quieter stay.
Bali has the complete range of accommodation options, with everything from guest houses, budget family hotels, luxury villas, to high-end resorts.
Jungutbatu & Mushroom Bay on Nusa Lembongan are popular places for people to visit for a few days, whether it be to relax, snorkel or surf the breaks at Playgrounds, Racetracks or Lacerations. There are plenty of accommodation options available, all on the beach or close to it.
Most of the accommodation in Kuta Lombok is budget style, simple places lined up on the beach road. There are however mid-range and luxury places, which will no doubt increase. The great thing about the cheap places in Kuta Lombok is even with a cold water shower, it feels luxurious after the salt water showers of the Gili Islands.

and a backpack, but similarly don’t want 14 nights in a resort in Nusa Dua, there is an answer. The Waka Experience offers soft-adventure resort tourism in Bali.
