Hotels in Nusa Dua & Tanjung Benoa
Nusa Dua is almost a mirage, set on the eastern side of the Bukit peninsula. The BTDC (Bali Tourism Development Corporation was set up in 1972 to develop low quality land into luxury accommodation. The Nusa Dua complex was built in 1984. Nusa Dua feels different from the rest of Bali and is accessed by one of 3 main gates, marked by enormous candi bentars (Balinese split gates). Upon entering one will notice finely kept lawns and well made roads and sidewalks. One will also notice the absence of Balinese locals, except for those working in the area.

Where to stay in Kuta Bali
The village of Kuta has changed dramatically since the first modern age travelers drifted in in the early 1970’s. Back then the small lanes running between the main street and the beach were just sandy tracks, complete with palm trees, cattle and crater-sized potholes.
Getting to Legian meant going to a completely different village. Nowadays the Kuta-Legian-Seminyak strip is one contiguous sprawl. The actual village of Kuta (now a very rich village) is bordered by Jl. Bakung Sari at the southern end, Jl. Melasti at the northern end, Jl. Pantai Kuta to the west and Jl. Tanjung Mekar to the …

Villa development in south Bali
Villas are great places to enjoy your holiday. The advantage of a villa over a hotel room / suite, is privacy and independence. Some people are happy to take a private entrance, pool, kitchen etc. over 24 room service and villas are abundant in Bali. Many hotels offer a choice of standand block rooms or private villas with their own perimeter wall and pool. for family groups or honeymooners this can be a great way to go. There are also privately owned villas which are just stand alone properties. Looking around online you’ll see some high prices quoted, but slightly away from the action in places like Kerobokan you can find cute, modern places with very nice facilities, 1 bedroom, and pool for US$60 a night. Seminyak is a hot spot for villas and you’ll find quality if expensive places on the beach side of Jl. Seminyak, just north of Jl. Double Six.

Accommodation in Legian Bali
Legian was the up and coming tourist area in the late 80’s, early 90’s. As far as expats were concerned Goa Cafe, located on Jl. Legian and Double Six, was the center of the universe and in the days before internet and cell phones, was the place you’d find people. In the years since Legian has become a mass of budget- mid range accommodation and family restaurants, relying heavily on the Australian market. Blue Ocean Beach is about as cosmopolitan as Legian gets, the 200 meter strip of bars and bechside restaurants drawing tourists from all over including a selection of long time expats.
