Anantara Spa Resort: Seminyak
When you talk about pure luxury in a resort then you can’t go past the newly opened boutique property Anantara Resort in Seminyak. This place eclipses most of those flash places in Nusa Dua. Actually the resort was designed by Anthony Liu of the TonTon architectural firm, responsible for the Bale Resort in Nusa Dua. Located on absolute prime beachfront at the end of Jl. Abimanyu, the resort has 59 suites each with plasma screen TVs, contemporary Asian-inspired furniture, broadband internet connection and spacious baths. But it is more than just another resort. The Anantara has everything you would need without even having to leave the place unless of course you wanted to cruise around the area checking out the locals. Heck, you can do that from your balcony overlooking the beach.

Looking for a cheap hotel in Bali
Bali has 20,000 hotel rooms supposedly. Today is December 20th, which is high-season. That means prices are increased and rooms are harder to get. My friends from Oregon wanted to change hotels this morning. The Puri Cendana in Seminyak was nice, but they didn’t want to pay the 300,000rp price tag. Their combined requirements were, a cheaper place, close to the beach, AC, pool, double beds. At 7.30am I took the car back to the shop on Jl. Padma Utara, and walked home. Arriving at the Puri Cendana an hour later, Ollie and I jumped on my motorbike for a tour of the accommodation in Legian and Kuta. I had some places in mind, but he wanted to see the rooms.

Seminyak is the epicenter of the expat scene in Bali. As well as trendy boutiques and restaurants, there are great villas. Downtown Villas, is a collection of 9 luxury villas, located across the street from Bintang supermarket, behind, Jl. Seminyak.

Puri Cendana Hotel Seminyak Bali
My friend Toby from Oregon is visiting soon, with his young daughter. Man is he in for a shock! Extremely hot and humid right now, and just eating today, I was sweating profusely. Lucky are the local people who work in an AC environment.

The Oberoi and Pierre Berclaz: Seminyak, Bali
How well I remember on one of journeys in Bali in the early days going in search of Pura Petitenget. At that time the tourist strip virtually ended just short of Jalan Padma and the Oberoi was the top hotel and situated way north of the tourist hub. How things have changed since that time.
