Hotel Banyualit Quality Resort in Lovina Bali
Lovina is a sprawling strip of coast, that includes several villages. I have stayed in western and central Lovina, now I wanted to try the central-eastern end. The main road wasn’t that inviting, last night, but I spotted a sign, on the corner of a side street heading towards the beach. The street featured many guest houses and small hotels, and I chose Hotel Banyualit Quality Resort, in Banyualit. A short chat at the front desk got my room price down from 300,000rp to 200,000rp.

Bali Hilton to Become the Ayodya Resort
It always gives me a laugh when a hotel changes its name. There has to be a damn good reason for it.

All Seasons Resort: Legian Bali
Bali tourism is in transition. Older businesses are going down the crapper, new ones are opening up. There are all kinds of reasons / excuses, but one of the most powerful is ‘the customers want different stuff now’. Twenty year ago people came to Bali for bamboo bars, Wayan singing Bob Marley and guest houses. Now they want slicker places, AC and lounge bars. Riding through Jl. Padma Utara in Legian, I noticed a new place called the All Seasons Hotel

Bali hotels rate with the best in the world
Bali hotels gives you the total relaxation in tropical paaradise you are looking for. That is the opinion anyway of the readers of Conde Nast Traveler. Conde Nast Traveler focuses on the high end traveler who values quality and luxury, over affordability. I usually don’t spend too long in fancy hotels but for a special occasion (wedding, honeymoon etc.) a big hotel with 6 restaurants and 3 swimming pools might be the ticket.

Looking for a cheap hotel in Bali
Bali has 20,000 hotel rooms supposedly. Today is December 20th, which is high-season. That means prices are increased and rooms are harder to get. My friends from Oregon wanted to change hotels this morning. The Puri Cendana in Seminyak was nice, but they didn’t want to pay the 300,000rp price tag. Their combined requirements were, a cheaper place, close to the beach, AC, pool, double beds. At 7.30am I took the car back to the shop on Jl. Padma Utara, and walked home. Arriving at the Puri Cendana an hour later, Ollie and I jumped on my motorbike for a tour of the accommodation in Legian and Kuta. I had some places in mind, but he wanted to see the rooms.

Oasis in the mountains: Sanda Butik Villas
Climbing the mountain roads, which twist and turn quicker than a Kuta moneychanger, I felt raindrops. Two minutes later it was raining full on and the trusty poncho got some use. Climbing higher the power of the rain increased, traffic dropped off as did my speed. Now there were sheets of water on the road and riding fast would be dangerous, as I couldn’t see the potholes.

Interview with Made Purnami at Aneka Beach Hotel in Kuta
Back in 2003 I visited the Aneka Beach Hotel on Jl. Pantai Kuta and interviewed Made Purnami. Made is the Sales Manager and showed me around the property. The Aneka Beach Hotel I remember had very nice gardens and a few bungalows with natural bamboo and alang alang roofs.

Chris is cosy at the Grand Bali Sani Suites in Kerobokan Bali
My brother Chris arrived this afternoon from London via KL. He is staying not at the Bali Sani in Legian, but the Grand Bali Sani Suites in Batubelig Beach in Kerobokan. We went out there and I called Ika to come over for a swim. She brought Jevon and we took turns sitting in the shade with him and swimming.
