Accommodation on the Bukit Bali
Bali has a wide variety of activities and items of interest, ranging from surfing, scuba diving, spas, temples, shopping, nightlife etc. Bali also has a whole selection of places with decent accommodation, whether the want the affordability of Kuta, the trendy locale of Seminyak, or the luxury of Nusa Dua, you’ve got options. One area that is beautiful, affordable, relaxing, close to Kuta, with great beaches, is the Bukit Peninsula. Unless you’re a surfer, the likelihood is you’ll only go to the Bukit for a fancy hotel, or a trip to Uluwatu temple. You should look again, because there are some great places to stay.

Accomodation in Selang Beach, East Bali
Driving Toby, Maya, Ika & Jevon around East Bali I had to weight up my options as far as accommodation. I like to go cheap when I can and I know Toby was concerned at keeping Maya comfortable, hoping for an AC room. Selang beach, on the Amed coast about 20 minutes south of Amed, offers some okay places. Good Karma Bungalows is a set of bamboo guest houses on the beach. Conditions are simple and include an outside cold water shower, bamboo / alang alang roof, bamboo furniture and a Robinson Crusoe feel. Up on the cliff, Blue Moon Villas, offer several rooms complete with AC, pool and all the extras. We checked out the prices for both. Blue Moon were asking $115 a night, Good Karma, 250,000rp. I got 200,000rp which was okay with me.

Taking a trip to Ubud Bali
This morning I was in my shower at 7.30am getting ready to shoot downtown for a trip to Ubud. As I finished showering, the handle of the faucet broke, meaning water was gushing out, nothing I could do about it. After a moments thought, I carried on getting ready, knowing the pembantu would be along later and maybe she could fix it.

Accommodation in Candi Dasa Bali
On my recent visit to Candi Dasa, a local told asked where I was staying. I told him ‘Flamboyant’, the name of the guest house in Senkidu. The cost was 50,000rp per night. He told me that in Candi Dasa you can find places for 50,000rp, 150,000rp, 250,000, 350,000rp and so on, whatever your budget can afford. Families staying in Ubud
Having a kid changes your requirements as far as accommodation, both for safety and convenience. Ika, Jevon and I are staying in a guest, the Rahayu Bungalows on Jl. Hanuman , downtown. We have a single story bungalow in Balinese style, own bathroom, hot water, stove and huge garden. This cost us 75,000rp per night and its good, breakfast is also included (pancake, coffee/ tea, fruit ).

Ned’s Hideaway: Seminyak Bali
Ned’s Hideaway is a guest house in Seminyak, that offers easy access to everything, for a low price. Located on Gang Bima, Ned’s is a 5 minute walk to the beach, 5 minutes from Bintang supermarket, 30 seconds from Jl. Seminyak, 2 minutes from the party scene and 15 minutes from Kuta by taxi. Ned’s has 10 fan rooms for 80,000rp night and 3 AC rooms for 150,000rp per night (prices vary with season). Checking out the place today, I met Agung, the owner, who was sitting in the restaurant / bar.

Waking up in an Ubud homestay
Ubud is a higher elevation than Kuta, making it cooler, especially at night. My friends checked into a mid range hotel with AC, but for me a ceiling fan in a homestay (guest house / losman) did the job.

Looking for a cheap hotel in Bali
Bali has 20,000 hotel rooms supposedly. Today is December 20th, which is high-season. That means prices are increased and rooms are harder to get. My friends from Oregon wanted to change hotels this morning. The Puri Cendana in Seminyak was nice, but they didn’t want to pay the 300,000rp price tag. Their combined requirements were, a cheaper place, close to the beach, AC, pool, double beds. At 7.30am I took the car back to the shop on Jl. Padma Utara, and walked home. Arriving at the Puri Cendana an hour later, Ollie and I jumped on my motorbike for a tour of the accommodation in Legian and Kuta. I had some places in mind, but he wanted to see the rooms.
