Villas Subaliku -
Kerobokan, Bali, Indonesia

Located next to fast developing rice fields out in Kerobokan the Subaliku is out of the main tourist areas of Kuta and Seminyak. Getting there from the airport will take 20-25 minutes up the Sunset Rd and along Jl. Raya Kerobokan a short way. The Subaliku is actually situated at the end of a small alley (Gang Jepun) off of a small street, Jl. Beraban.
The place is classy looking, small and relaxed. Subaliku is limited to 20 guests.
All Studios & Villas are A/C in the Bedrooms, Fans, Private Bathrooms, Hot & Cold Water, Private Balconies Leading Onto / Looking Over Rice fields.
Suites Have Shower Bathrooms.
All Villas Have Fan Cooled Living Rooms With Kitchens & Full Bathrooms.
3 Bedroom Villa Has Additional Outdoor Shower Room.
Extra Beds / Persons:
Studios can accommodate 1 extra child only. 1 bedroom villa can accommodate 2 extra children and 2 extra adults. The 3 bedroom villa can accommodate 5 extra children and 1 extra adult.
The villas are 2 storey and are arranged around the swimming pool. The place is western owned and looks like it has been put together well. There is plenty of room in the rooms and the furniture, beds and couches are large too.
Construction is mostly western with cement walls, tile floors and wooden roofs. The Balinese elements are the bamboo furniture and poolside bale, ideal for relaxing on during a slow afternoon.
The restaurant structure outside next to the pool is small and really meant for breakfasts, which can be ordered till 1pm, the American breakfast is 30,000rp and the Continental Breakfast is 20,000rp. The manager Agus said they often order food from some of the good restaurants close by at guests requests and delivery is free. I think because the family villa has a kitchen and there are many good places to eat close by the restaurant is not a major part of the hotel.
Bathroom at Subaliku are modern, shiny and clean.
The swimming pool is kidney shaped with an attached jacuzzi. Recliners are located next to the pool with sun shades. When I visited no one was using the pool area and I think it probably in not super busy.
The 4-poster beds had mosquito nets, the 2-poster beds did not appear to.
For someone looking for a quiet time in a place with spacious modern rooms within reach of the beach, good restaurants and the party scene this would work. Getting to Kuta is going to take 15-20 minutes.
Many people prefer this villas style over a hotel room, even though some of the facilities are shared it still provides more privacy.
Location:
Subaliku is located on a narrow street off of Jl. Kerobokan across from Warung Batavia. From the airport you will take the Sunset road till the end and take a right turn. About 100 meters down Jl. Beraban you will see a sign on the right for Subaliku. The trip from the airport will take around 25-30 minutes.
Subaliku is not located on the beach however Batubelig beach is about a 5 minute drive. The best things about the location is that it is fairly quiet, being situated next to rice fields and that there are good restaurants nearby including La Lucciola, Warung Gossip, Warisan.
Atmosphere:
The atmosphere at Subaliku is relaxed. The place is very small and kind of feels like a group of villas rather than a hotel. The entrance is down a narrow alley (Gang Jepun) and the property borders developing rice fields. The reception is small and is at the front right next to the small parking area. Once inside you will some elements of western and Balinese design including bamboo couches in the lobby area. There is a central pool and jacuzzi and small restaurant area.
Staff Friendliness:
There are not so many staff in this place seeing as it can only accommodate 20 people. I spoke with Agus the manager who is from Kerobokan. He was very accommodating and friendly.
Weird Stuff:
I would say trying to find this place is a bit of a hassle because the name of the street (Jl. Beraban) changed a couple of years ago and not many people know Gang Jepun.
What makes this place unique:
This place is unique because it offers a quiet environment in a hotel that is very small and personal. He Subaliku feels like a group of tightly packed villas with a shared pool. Rice field location with access to good restaurants and the beach are selling points.
Why would you stay here:
I would stay at Subaliku if I had a family and wanted a quiet personal time with them. Subaliku does not really have a restaurant, they serve breakfast but have to order out for other meals mostly. For a couple seeking peace and quiet, with spacious rooms, a pool and access to good restaurants and the beach this would work.
Why would you stay somewhere else:
I would stay somewhere else if I wanted more of a lively fun scene. There is not much going on here and the place feels like independent villas rather than a hotel.
If I wanted close access to the beach I would stay in Tuban, Kuta Legian or Seminyak.
How do the rooms feel:
Rooms are large and have good beds. Very clean and feature mini bar, TV, telephone. Some rooms have a shower, others a bath tub. Family rooms have a kitchen.
Proximity to the action:
Subaliku is not exactly in the center of the action but is close to some good restaurants including La Lucciola, Ku De Ta, Café Warisan. The Seminyak party scene is several minute drive. Kuta will be around 20 minutes.
Noise levels:
This is a quiet place and outside noises should not be a problem.
