Manager: Lisa
I met with Lisa who is the assistant front office manager for the Oberoi. She is from Klungkung and has been with the hotel 1 month.,
Lisa told me the hotel was built in 1974 and was originally the Kayu Aya. It was taken over in 1978 by Oberoi.
The hotel has 74 rooms (60 Lanai and 14 Villa ).
Lisa said the highlights of the Oberoi hotel are the location, out in Seminyak is a quiet area for guests to relax and the garden, which is beautifully landscaped.
Lisa told me the Oberoi has 500 meters of beach front property and that all the bunglaows face the beach.
The style of the hotel is very Balinese’ and the rooms have been renovated 3 times since they have been built.
The staff at the hotel are loyal with some working here for 25 years. Their service is warm and friendly. Guests often comment on this.
A unique aspect of the hotel is that all the walls are made from rocks, cleverly paced together.
Special events at the hotel include a Balinese dance 3 times a week with dinner, a Romantic dinner next to the beach with only 2 people at a table. This can be arranged for anywhere on the beach.
Says Lisa If Bali is heaven, then the Oberoi is paradise.

Accomodation
The rooms at the Oberoi come in the Balinese thatched roof villa style.
Luxury Villas
The thatched-roof villas are havens for peace and privacy. They range in size from 200sq meters to 600sq meters. Each has its own lushly landscaped garden courtyard with rock pond.
A raised pavilion provides a shady retreat for alfresco dining and a private terrace overlooks the beach and gardens. The bedrooms are individually designed with a theme that reflects each villa’s floral name. The floral theme is carried through to the specially commissioned oil paintings, complimentary stationary and the hand-carved wooden headboard of the king-size. Four poster Balinese bed. The artworks, and the softly toned fabrics featuring local motifs, reflect the quality and intimacy of Balinese handicrafts. The bedroom décor is further enhanced by opulent marble flooring, and the teak wood finishes.
The luxurious bathroom features a private-garden, secluded behind high stone walls. Each bathroom has a walk-in closet and luggage storage area, 2 vanity counters, separate stalls for shower and toilet, and a marble sunken bath.
Villas with pools:
Nine of the villas have their own swimming pool, measuring up to 10 meters by 6 meters, set in the palatial courtyard. The 2 luxury villas gardenview with pool and royal Villa Frangiapani each have an open-air garden bathroom, an original Oberoi feature.
The Royal Villa Hibiscus with pool has 2 bathrooms, a kitchenette and a separate living room with traditional thatched roof.
Luxury Lanai Rooms:
The thatched-roof lanai rooms are built in clusters of 4 around a central rock pond. Each lanai room has a private balcony and measures more than 55 square meters. The bedroom is AC and you can choose either a king-size Balinese bed or Hollywood twin beds. The bathroom is set in a private walled garden and appointed with a marble sunken bath and double vanity counter. Most have a separate shower and a walk-in closet with ample storage space.

Check Availability at The Oberoi
The Oberoi is a luxury hotel set on the beaches on Seminyak. The low key elegant style that is a signature of Oberoi comes through here in this relaxing hotel.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere at the Oberoi is one of spacious relaxation. I wrote down some thoughts while walking through the grounds and they were tropical, relaxed, breezy, spacious, elegant, low-key’. Oberoi specializes in luxury small hotels.
Location
The Oberoi is located on Jalan Lasmana ( Oberoi ) just along from Ku De Ta. It is situated on the beach and has easy access to a great selection of good restaurants on the same street. You can walk to Mykonos, Toscana or any of the others in a matter of minutes. Plenty of taxis cruising this street too especially in the evenings and getting down to Kuta will cost no more than 20,000rp. Getting to the main party street in Seminyak ( Jalan Dhyana Pura will take 5 minutes by taxi. Go to Jalan Seminayak and head towards Kuta turning right at the next big street. Dhyana Pura really gets going After 11pm.
The 500 meters of beach mean you have ample space to relax and feel like you’re on a vacation.
Luxury Scale
The Oberoi has a great beach side location, restaurants, a spa and a exercise facility so you could say the luxury level is fairly high.
The luxury villas range in size from 200sq meters to 600sq meters. Each villa has an expansive terrace and a garden courtyard with a dining bale’ pavilion. All bedrooms are AC and come complete with a teakwood bed.
I liked the elegant furniture inside each villa and Balinese artwork hwelps to create atmosphere.
Bathrooms include sunken bath tub that looks out onto private garden. Robe and toiletries provided.
Staff Friendliness
Staff wear traditional outfits and are polite. My guide was very friendly and showed me many details of the hotel. Grounds staff and bar staff were quick to return a smile too.
Weird Stuff
The hotel was built in 1974 but still looks good. That’s impressive. Also the entry from the parking lot to lobby is under a tunnel like bamboo roof, very atmospheric and when you emerge in the lobby you see the waves crashing in the background.
What makes it unique
This hotel is located right in the middle of the main expat area giving access to great restaurants and nightclubs. The 500 meters of beach and the fact that this had been optimized, spreading the bungalows out and creating the spacious, tropical low key feel while retaining a degree of luxury.
Why would you want to stay here
I would stay here if I want to be next to the beach in a quiet, but luxurious setting. The nightlife of Seminyak is around the corner and Kuta is only 15 minutes away by taxi.
To fully relax and enjoy on site restaurants, spa and exercise, while still keeping a Balinese flavor, this is a great place.
Why would you stay somewhere else
I’d stay somewhere else if price was an issue. The Oberoi is not an inexpensive hotel and if I was spending that kind of money I’d want to be using all the facilities. That said, if exploring Bali is your goal you might not want to stay at the Oberoi.
