Resor Seminyak
Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia

Arriving in Bali you are probably going to be jetlagged and tired. The hussle bussle of Kuty isn’t for everyone and by jumping in an airport taxi and heading to Seminyak you can easily escape the crowds to a relaxing hotel that is perfectly located.
Right now occupancy is way down and the atmosphere here is very quiet. Resor Seminyak was the first resort style place in this area and definitely has an upscale feel, although not overly intimidating. It has a couple of pools, one with a sunken bar and an area of ground where you can play mini tennis and golf. The lobby area is large and shady which gives an upmarket feel with a Balinese style of course.
Resor Seminyak is located on Jalan Lasmana ( Oberoi ) just along from Ku De Ta. It is situated on the beach and has easy access to a great selection of good restaurants on the same street. You can walk to Mykonos, Toscana or any of the others in a matter of minutes. Plenty of taxis cruising this street too especially in the evenings and getting down to Kuta will cost no more than 20,000rp. Getting to the main party street in Seminyak ( Jalan Dhyana Pura will take 5 minutes by taxi. Go to Jalan Seminayak and head towards Kuta turning right at the next big street. Dhyana Pura really gets going After 11pm.
Most of the places I stay at don’t have mini golf or sunken bars, so Resor Seminyak seems quite high on the luxury scale. I looked at 2 kinds of rooms, twin beds and master bedroom. Both kinds had balconies. The twin room was very average for most of this kind of hotel, the master bedroom was more impressive with a queen size bed. The staff who showed me the rooms told me prices were negotiable.
Among the facilities offered are rooms with jacuzzis, satelite tv, 24 coffee shop and bar, 24 hours room service, weekly buffet and cultural dance, spa and sauna, massage and large meeting rooms.
All the staff wear elements of traditional costume and are polite and smile courteously. This isn’t the kind of place where you are going to holding Made’s baby or going fishing with Wayan, it’s a more processed style of hospitality.
REVIEW
This hotel is located right in the middle of the main expat area giving access to great restaurants and nightclubs. It has enough on site facilities that you could stay in the hotel and relax for a few day with no problem too. The beach outside is very pleasant and not crowded. It’s the dry season now so the beach and ocean are much cleaner.
If you want to escape from the Kuta area but stay within reach of the action in a well planned place on the beach this is a good option. Quality facilities are guaranteed and your relaxation is job #1. You can find more affordable places but for someone on a short trip Resor Seminyak allows you to arrive ( 30 minutes from airport ) and immediately relax without having to worry about anything. Couples will enjoy staying here because of the beach side location and the proximity of great restaurants.
You might stay somewhere else if you are looking for more interaction with the locals and if you are on a budget. The resort scene tends to shut the locals out, that’s one of the attractions for some people. If you are in Bali to learn the language and meet the locals a losman might work better. Long term travelers might find prices a bit out of their reach.

We are thinking of going to this resort in March 2006. Are their many tourists visiting Bali at the moment?
Nick , what’s a good price for the Resor at this time of year?
