Investigating hotels on Jalan Legian in Kuta Bali

Friday I started a new hotel guide for Jalan Legian the new kuta area.

I started off at the bottom of Jalan Legian and visited a few of the medium-range hotels including the one that Barrie stayed at called to Hotel Prawita.

The Kuta area as many guesthouses in the Poppies Lane section of some tourists prefer to be away from the backpacker scene.

My new digital camera is really coming in handy. The clarity and the flash mean I can show people what the places I’m reporting on really look like. Some of the hotels are tucked down small alleys called ‘gangs’ and I’m sure many tourists would not even venture down these alleys. Sometimes it can be pleasant place down there.

There are ton of shops, bars and places to eat on Jalan Legian including this seafood restaurant which specializes in fresh produce.

I had and appointment with an American traveller at Kori restaurant in Kuta and on the way home I stopped on Jalan Pantai Kuta to snap the sunset.

Arriving home in Seminyak I remembered that the water pump wasn’t working and did not get to take a shower. The recent storm had blocked it up and the guys from Bali Land & Houses had still to fix it for me. Changing clothes I rode my bike to Kuta and met my travel friend who (prefers to stay anonymous).

We chatted about world travel and travel writing. Kori restaurant is a nicely laid out place and after my nasi goreng (34,000rp) and my friend’s fish and chips we moved to the bar to enjoy the live music. My friend thought at first the singer’s voice was a recording, it was so good and we both agreed these folks were exceptional.

Service was a tad below average because the place was packed, but the staff were trying and the food was great. All in all we had a good time and I can recommend Kori on a friday night for a good time.

I helped my friend get a taxi back to Nusa Dua from Jalan Legian. Staying out there he can enjoy the luxury of a resort but has to commute to do anything.

I rode back home on my bike thankful that next storm hadn’t arrived yet.

G’Day Nick,

Excellent fotos mate!. The sunset foto is a ripper!. The hotel with the deep blue pool is the one next to the Prawita, right?.

Hope you didn’t at at the Mini restoran. It does a great trade but it so bloody expensive. In my opinion, overpriced.

Barrie,

No I didn’t eat at the Mini restaurant, I know I can get this kind of food cheaper in Jimbaran on the beach.

My new camera is a small Canon 2.5 megapixel 7.5 optical/digital.

I think the range is 35mm-105mm

Hi Nick,

I’m a Balinese studying in Australia and I love reading your entries, helps with the homesickness.
I can’t wait for my next visit home in December and riding my motorbike thru the roads of Kuta. By the way, if someone hasn’t already told you, you are paying to much as a back hander to the police when they stop you. Try Rp20,000, that’s more than enough.
The weather here in Wollongong is a fair bit colder than Bali, my foster family keep assuring me that I will climatise, I wonder how long that will take, I’ve been here since March already!
Catch ya!

Hi Nick, Just happened upon your very interesting site and have been reading all the comments and posts. I have been in Bali only once and fell in love with it. Hoping to go back sometime soon as i made a lot of aquaintences there while on holiday. I was just wondering though, is that little open restaurant called MOMA’S KITCHEN still there ? i know it was cheap n cheerfull but i loved goin there. Used to spend a lot of time in Paddys Bar (as you do when your Irish!!) i know its there no longer but thought it was a really fun place, anyway was really wondering about that Moma’s Kitchen and stuff. One thing i really regret is not keeping contacts for the people i met there as they really were hospitable to me and my friends, maybe il come across them again.

Anyway as they say in in Irish….Slan leat !!

Looking forward to your new posts….Aaron
