The Intan Bali Village is a 4-star hotel located on the beach in Seminyak. It has 330 rooms including cottages and bungalows, 2 large swimming pools, 6 bars and restaurants and a spa. It is ideally located for privacy, relaxation and easy access to shoping, restaurants and nightlife.
The atmosphere at the Itan Village is tranquil for a couple of reasons, the hotel has large grounds and occupancy is down. Located in Seminyak on the beach a guest will have no trouble relaxing here. Two large swimming pools and comfortable bungalows surrounded by palms and bushes give a relaxed tropical feel. The staff here are quiote informal and say they make people feel like the hotel is home from home. This place has some of the amenities of a larger resort, but less of the fancy-shmancy up market atmosphere.
The location on Jalan Petitenget in Seminyak is a little ways out of the hectic center of Kuta. This can be a good thing if you want to relax. Located on Batubelig beach you will have only to stroll from the swimming pools 10 meters to the beach.
The main street, Jalan Legian is a few minutes away and Jalan Oberoi which features some great restaurants and Woodstock bar is only a couple of minutes drive. To get to nightlife on Jalan Dhyana Pura you’ll have a 7 minute drive while Kuta is only 15 minutes.
Ngurah Rai is about 20-25 minutes by taxi.
The Itan Village is a 4-star hotel and has a decent level of luxury. Facilities include 2 large swimming pools, restaurants, spa and fitness center. The grounds look good and guests have a choice of 1 or 2 storey bungalows or staying in a block.
Many of the bungalows have been renovated and have an open air bathroom which takes advantage of the weather while retaining a high standard.
There are 6 restaurants and bars and a host of extras to make sure you won’t have to leave the property if you don’t want to.
The Itan Village prides itself on its home from home’ atmosphere and now that the hotel is less busy the staff get to know guests personally. My tour guide Dayu was very outgoing and even offered me part of her lunch. The fitness staff and spa staff made time to chat and invited me back. I think the air of relaxation and less formality than at a 5-star resort allow the staff to be more relaxed and friendly with the guests.
The hotel does seem quiet right now due to the lower occupancy and some of the rooms are closed for renovation which includes converting some of the cottages to open air bathrooms.
The fitness center is open to the public and might be worth checking out at a later date.
The Itan Village is unique because of its location out on Batubelic beach in Seminyak, its size and level of luxury and also the friendliness of the staff.
I would stay at this hotel if I wanted a resort type level of luxury that is a little more personal than the resorts in Nusa Dua and have access to the shopping / nightlife of Kuta, Legian, Seminyak. The 6 restaurants and bars, 2 swimming pools, workout facility and spa mean you don’t have to leave, but the action is no more than a 15 drive if you choose to.
I might stay at a different hotel if price was an issue. A resort type hotel packs in a lot of things and unless you are going to use them you might feel your money is wasted. Cheaper places can be found with fewer extras.

Manager: Nyoman Badra
I spoke to Nyoman Badra who is a manager at the Itan Village Hotel in the sales department. He has been with the hotel for 14 years.
He told me that the hotel is currently undergoing renovation and has 90 rooms vailable. Of these 90 rooms 25% are occupied.
Guests are composed of 55% Europeans and 25% Asians. Americans make up about 3% of the total and are repeat visitors.
Nyoman said European guests usually stay for 3 weeks while Asian guests usually stay for 3-6 nights.
I asked Nyoman what he thought were the special points of the Itan Village and he said first of all the location is special. The hotel has a private beach that is kept clean by hotel employees. The Seminyak area has many great restaurants on Jalan Oberoi that is around the corner including Ku De Ta.
Jalan Legian has plentiful shopping opportunities and is also is close reach as is Jalan Dhyana Pura that caters to the late night party scene.
Nyoman told me that unlike Kuta, the beach and streets around the Itan Village don’t have many hawkers and guests can enjoy their vacation without hassles.
The hotel site is 9 hectares, is square shaped and features tropical gardens birds. The lobby is a 2-storey traditional roof which is centrally located. The hotel also has 1 and 2 storey cottages and a block of rooms.
Nyoman told me that some of the cottages have open- air bathrooms like many of the better guest houses, which is a growing style here in Bali. The design of the cottages is a combination of Indonesian styles with Balinese roof and Javanese furniture.
Nyoman told me that the hotel does a Balinese cultural party regularly with dancing and buffet. Also offered is a cooking demonstration.
If a guest stays more than 7 days they get free airport transfer. The hotel also provides a free shuttle to Kuta and Legian.
I asked Nyoman if he could say one sentence to a foreigner thinking about coming to the Itan Village and he said we are very familiar and if people come they will feel at home.’
