Anantara Spa Resort: Seminyak
When you talk about pure luxury in a resort then you can’t go past the newly opened boutique property Anantara Resort in Seminyak. This place eclipses most of those flash places in Nusa Dua. Actually the resort was designed by Anthony Liu of the TonTon architectural firm, responsible for the Bale Resort in Nusa Dua. Located on absolute prime beachfront at the end of Jl. Abimanyu, the resort has 59 suites each with plasma screen TVs, contemporary Asian-inspired furniture, broadband internet connection and spacious baths. But it is more than just another resort. The Anantara has everything you would need without even having to leave the place unless of course you wanted to cruise around the area checking out the locals. Heck, you can do that from your balcony overlooking the beach.

Hotels in Nusa Dua & Tanjung Benoa
Nusa Dua is almost a mirage, set on the eastern side of the Bukit peninsula. The BTDC (Bali Tourism Development Corporation was set up in 1972 to develop low quality land into luxury accommodation. The Nusa Dua complex was built in 1984. Nusa Dua feels different from the rest of Bali and is accessed by one of 3 main gates, marked by enormous candi bentars (Balinese split gates). Upon entering one will notice finely kept lawns and well made roads and sidewalks. One will also notice the absence of Balinese locals, except for those working in the area.

Accommodation in Legian Bali
Legian was the up and coming tourist area in the late 80’s, early 90’s. As far as expats were concerned Goa Cafe, located on Jl. Legian and Double Six, was the center of the universe and in the days before internet and cell phones, was the place you’d find people. In the years since Legian has become a mass of budget- mid range accommodation and family restaurants, relying heavily on the Australian market. Blue Ocean Beach is about as cosmopolitan as Legian gets, the 200 meter strip of bars and bechside restaurants drawing tourists from all over including a selection of long time expats.

Bali Wins Another Readers’ Choice Awards
It seems lately that every time a travel or lifestyle magazine does a reader’s poll then ultimately Bali comes out as a favourite. Bali has won the Best Leisure Destination and the Ritz-Carlton Bali the Best Hotel Recognition in Readers’ Choice Award in DestinAsian. And, rightly so because it is a beautiful island with beautiful people and has a unique and ancient culture. There is so much to offer the traveller or holidaymaker with its terraced rice fields and spectacular beaches. Then there is the excellent range of hotels, activities and the vast array of restaurants to choose from. What I find amazing is how the Balinese themselves even manage to preserve their traditions and culture in the continual onslaught of ever-growing tourism. But, they do.
