Mr Apriansih: The hotel is 15 years old. We have made some interior renovations recently so the rooms look more ‘pop’ or fashionable.

Mr Apriansih: Whole property is 2.5 hectares.

Mr Apriansih: The hotel has 127 rooms.

Baliblog: How is the hotel laid out?
Mr Apriansih: The Standard and Superior rooms face the swimming pool. Delux rooms face the garden. The buildings have 3 storeys a pool, a coffee shop and restaurant.

Baliblog: What are the selling points of this hotel?
Mr Apriansih: For the newcomers if you like a calm situation in the daytime you will find it and also very good nightlife.

Baliblog: What are the operating hours for the coffee shop and restaurant?
Mr Apriansih: Opens at 7am –10.30 am 11am –3pm 3-6pm open for supper brunch 7-11pm dinner.

Baliblog: How would you describe the atmosphere at this hotel?
Mr Apriansih: We try to create a very Balinese atmosphere with local feeling and you still feel like at home. You can relax with your friends.

Baliblog: What is your occupancy right now (Aug 2002)?
Mr Apriansih: Our occupancy averages 65% -70% at the moment.

Baliblog: Who are your customers?
Mr Apriansih: Our guests are mostly from Germany and Australia as well as domestic tourists.

Baliblog: What kind of tourist would this hotel be good for?
Mr Apriansih: This hotel would be good for a young couple who like to experience the nightlife as we are located on the main road of the Seminyak nightlife scene.

Baliblog: What are the selling points of this hotel?
Mr Apriansih: The best thing about the hotel is the location that is close to beach, within walking distance to nightlife and art shops. It’s very easy to find the community and we have a very friendly staff. There is not too much noise from the bars. You can relax at night.

Baliblog: What kind of food does the restaurant serve?
Mr Apriansih: We serve Indonesian food as well as International which includes European and American.

Baliblog: Does the hotel provide any special events or services for guests?
Mr Apriansih: We can arrange entertainment for guests, a party or a Balinese dancer.

Baliblog: What extra features of the hotel give added value for money?
Mr Apriansih: We have a shuttle bus 10am and 6pm to Kuta, 24 hour room service, free fitness center, tennis court and a spa. The guests can have a 50% discount on the spa. We also have the swimming pool with pool bar which is open.

If the guests want to venture outside the Seminyak area we have a tour desk to help them arrange their tour round Bali or outside Bali.

Mr Apriansih: We have 3 meeting rooms. The largest up to 300 persons and has standard equipment of meeting rooms. The medium room can accommodate 100 people and small room 65 people.

Hotel Saphir Bali is located on Jl. Abimanyu (Dhyana Pura) in the heart of Seminyak’s nightlife.

The entrance to the hotel feels quite expansive with the parking area and fountain out in front. The lobby of the hotel has a brown marble floor. Reception is straight ahead as you walk in. Couches and chairs are arranged in the lobby area which is decorated with Balinese umbrellas, flowers and carvings. Traditional music is played. The hotel feels like it has been around for a while but is still decent.

The restaurant is adjacent to the lobby and is comfortable without being fancy. Restaurant area and café area spacious with the chef right in front.

At pool side there are good quality wooden recliners with comfortable mats. Stone fish spouting water decorate the outside of the pool.

The hotel’s many rooms are in 2 and 3 storeys which switch back and forth. Many ponds and flower beds help with the relaxing Balinese feel. The 2nd and 3rd storey rooms all have a small balcony which can make you feel a little boxed in, especially being located close to one of the many tight stair wells.

The Spa is by Odiseus, a chain and is fairly compact. Treatments offered include Javanese Traditional Massage, Aroma Therapy Massage and Balinese Boreh.

The fitness center provides cardio fitness, weight training, aerobics, tennis court, sauna and whirlpool. Guests can also get a health and fitness assessment, fitness consultation, exercise program, personal trainer and medical consultation.

Above the lobby is a second floor with a pool table and a few couches. This is the least attractive part of the hotel but provides another space to relax.

Atmosphere
The atmosphere is of a hotel that does good business with a reception area that actually has bell-boys and a responsive check in staff. An attempt has been made to create a Balinese feel with carvings, decorations and traditional music. The lobby is a fair size and lies adjacent to the restaurant and pool. I’d say that while the hotel seems to offer a good level of comfort it is not intimidating like some of the fancy resorts.

Location
Saphir Hotel is located close to the end of Jl. Dhyana Pura in Seminyak which is the new ‘party street’. The airport is about 30-35 minutes and the beach is about 2 minutes walking.

To access the shopping of Kuta will take 15 minutes by taxi and the restaurants in the Seminyak area are close at hand.

Luxury Scale
The Saphir offers a good level of luxury without being a ‘luxury hotel’. Equipped with a restaurant, bar, swimming pool with pool bar and poolside massages guests don’t have to leave to be able to find comfort.

Rooms are clean and modern all having A/C and TV.

Staff Friendliness
When I visited the hotel was fairly busy and the staff had to respond to guests who were arriving and checking out. My guide Ketut was friendly and showed me the Standard and Superior rooms.

Weird Stuff
The restaurant opens out onto the main street, which is okay but I actually didn’t realize it was part of the hotel when I first passed by.

What makes this hotel unique?
This hotel is unique because it offers a good level of service and comfort in Seminyak which is a cut above the Kuta area. The price is decent too and the beach is only 1 minute walk away.

Why would you stay here?
I would stay here if I wanted a hotel that offered a selection of services and amenities as well as decent rooms for an affordable price. This would be good for a group of friends wanting to relax in comfort, have access to the beach, the restaurants and the nightlife while not blowing a ton of money. The suite would be good for a family.

Why would you stay somewhere else?
I would stay somewhere else if budget was my first concern or if I wanted top level luxury.

Noise levels
Sitting in the lobby during the day there is noise from motorbikes on Jl. Dhyana Pura. Its not overpowering though and if you need a really quiet room ask for one far from the street.

Proximity to action
Saphir Hotel is very close to the party scene on Jl. Dhyana Pura and guests will be able to walk to bars and restaurants in about 3 minutes.

The restaurants on Jl. Oberoi are within a 5 minute taxi ride.

How does the room feel?
The rooms feel clean, modern and comfortable.

Amenities
Rooms have A/C, TV and the hotel itself offers a large swimming pool with pool-bar and poolside massages. Other services include the Spa and Fitness Center.
