Waking up in an Ubud homestay

Ubud is a higher elevation than Kuta, making it cooler, especially at night. My friends checked into a mid range hotel with AC, but for me a ceiling fan in a homestay (guest house / losman) did the job.

Affordable accommodation in Ubud Bali

Bali has 20,000 hotel and guest house rooms, which vary from the very basic ‘losman’ (simple fan room with cold water), to villas to the ‘Best Hotel in the World’ (Four Seasons Sayan). In each area you have incredible choice and no one has visited every property. a while ago I visited guest houses and budget hotels in 3 parts of Ubud, Jl. Hanoman, Jl. Kajeng and Jl. Penestenan. LP’s new SE Asia guide lists their choices for accomodation in the Ubud area.

Ubud Accommodation: Plenty of options

My recent trip to Ubud gave me the chance to check out some of the budget accommodation options. I quickly reviewed guest houses (homestays) in 3 different areas close to downtown. Firstly I stayed at Puri Jati Homestay on Jl. Hanoman and visited many of the other guesthouses on that street. I visited 3 guesthouses on Jl. Kajeng, the funky little street off of Jl. Raya Ubud. Lastly I checked out some places on a small alley of off Jl. Penestenan, in the west of Ubud.

Downtown Ubud accommodation options

Ubud is often the first place that Kuta based tourists visit on a day trip. It offers a totally different scene which only gets better the longer you stay. The great thing about Ubud is that downtown is loaded with accommodation options to fit every budget. Jl. Hanoman and Jl. Kajeng, both downtown offer handy accommodation for people without transport. Jl. Penestenan slightly out of town is one of the many other options for a quieter stay.

Taking a trip to Ubud Bali

This morning I was in my shower at 7.30am getting ready to shoot downtown for a trip to Ubud. As I finished showering, the handle of the faucet broke, meaning water was gushing out, nothing I could do about it. After a moments thought, I carried on getting ready, knowing the pembantu would be along later and maybe she could fix it.

Families staying in Ubud

Having a kid changes your requirements as far as accommodation, both for safety and convenience. Ika, Jevon and I are staying in a guest, the Rahayu Bungalows on Jl. Hanuman , downtown. We have a single story bungalow in Balinese style, own bathroom, hot water, stove and huge garden. This cost us 75,000rp per night and its good, breakfast is also included (pancake, coffee/ tea, fruit ).

Botanical Gardens: Ubud, Bali

Ubud is stunningly beautiful place and now, it has a new addition with the opening of the Botanical Garden Ubud recently. Situated some 1.2 kilometres from the centre of town, it offers visitors a relaxed and unique setting.

Accommodation on Jl. Hanoman in Ubud Bali

juice_hanoman072405.jpgJl. Hanoman is a long straight street that runs N-S in downtown Ubud. Starting at Jl. Raya Ubud, the main street in town and finishing at the turn off at Jl. Monkey Forest, Jl. Hanoman runs downhill past art shops, cafes temples and guesthouses. These homestays are family compounds complete with elaborate family temples. The families are usually living in the front section and the newer guestrooms are at the back, sometimes facing the rice fields that lie between Jl. Hanoman and Jl. Monkey Forest. For someone who arrives by Perama bus, you will be dropped off at the bottom of Jl. Hanoman. This makes finding affordable accommodation easy as the street has plenty of choice. Don't be afraid to check a few places out and bargain. Security is usually not a problem as the family is always around, breakfast is almost always included and check out times tend to be around 12 noon. Hanoman is the monkey god and his image can be found at temples along the street.
