Located next to rice fields in downtown Ubud close to the Monkey Forest, Biyukukung is easily accessible.

This hotel has a small parking area and reception at the front and an upstairs lounge/dining area under a natural bamboo and alang alang roof affording views over the rice fields.

Atmosphere
The atmosphere at Biyukukung is one of quiet relaxation. Behind the small open sided reception area is a swimming pool with traditional bale’ and recliners. Behind the pool the 2-storey rooms are in alignment with the rice paddies. In fact the terrace of each room is only a few feet from the paddy wall. This really gives a natural atmosphere.

Location
The location is right off of a main street but tucked far enough away that you feel in a tranquil quiet place. For people who like to walk to the restaurants and shops this would be a good choice.

Luxury scale
Rooms come in 3 categories Standard, Delux and Suites. The Standard room I looked at was clean, modern and compact. While not a luxury hotel a decent level of comfort is present and this is many levels above a guest house. Having an infinity pool overlooking the rice paddies and spa on site add a certain feeling of luxury.

Staff friendliness
The staff I talked to were very friendly and I discussed soccer with the receptionist. I think the small size and traffic that this hotel receives, means the staff is more relaxed and want to talk. The Spa staff number several people and they seemed very willing to chat when not working.

Weird stuff
I think the compactness takes a bit of getting used to. Basically in one long strip there is the driveway, parking area, reception, pool, rooms, spa. The place isn’t that wide but they’ve packed a lot in.

What makes this unique?
This hotel is unique because for a reasonable price you can stay at a small personal hotel right in the heart of Ubud, but still face paddy fields as you rise every morning. The hotel also has an adjoining spa to provide relaxing massages and treatments.

Why would you want to stay here?
You should stay at the Biyukukung is you like to be downtown and have access to the restaurants and shops of Ubud, but still want the natural feeling of being close to nature, all for an affordable price.

Why would you want to stay somewhere else?
You should stay somewhere else if you want total luxury and need a fancy resort or are on a skin-tight budget and prefer a guest house.

Noise levels
While I was at the hotel there was noise from a chainsaw in the forest next door but other than that it seemed quiet.

Proximity to action
The Biyukukung is located on Jl. Sugriwa and is a 5-10 minute walk to the restaurants of downtown Ubud.

How does the room feel?
The rooms feel modern and compact. Each room had a TV at the foot of the bed along with the mini bar. The beds are large and comfortable.
