Sales Manager: Sari
From: Bali

Baliblog: Sari roughly how many hectares is the hotel?
Sari: The total area is 3.8 hectares including the garden and everything.

Baliblog: If a visitor walks into the hotel what kind of things does he see?
Sari: Its purely Balinese style.

Baliblog: Not mixed with Javanese or anything?
Sari: No Balinese style.

Baliblog: How can you describe that style to someone who has never been here?
Sari: When the guest comes into the lobby they feel that this is a small hotel with a Balinese atmosphere. When they come to their room and the pool area they will feel like it is just like at home, because the staff will give a personal service. That’s the opinion of some of our guests.

Baliblog: I see you have a lot of carvings in the lobby area, artwork and Balinese umbrellas. So a lot of Balinese decorations.

I see that when you walk into the lobby to the left side you have the shops and right behind the lobby you have the swimming pool with most of the rooms on the left side of the lobby.
Sari: The rooms to the left of the lobby are in 3 storeys.

Baliblog: Your Superior rooms, they all face the garden?
Sari: No we have 2 kinds of view. One with a garden view and one with a pool or seaview.

Baliblog: Yeah okay that’s for Superior. Where are the Deluxe rooms.
Sari: Our Deluxe rooms are closer to the beach but the view is actually the garden view. The extra feature that makes our Deluxe rooms special is the ‘garden bathroom’ that each of them have, with the bamboo Balinese style. These are suitable for honeymooners.

Baliblog: Good. I’ll tell them that. The family rooms where are they?
Sari: The 13 Kiddie Suites are on the ground floor on the left side and there are 2 other ones located over on the right side also on the ground floor and we have another 3 rooms further along. The view from the Kiddie Suite is purely garden view all on the ground floor because they are mostly for families, for security so the children won’t jump from the balcony. Our family Suite is with the pool and kitchen. The design is also different.

Baliblog: The rooms facilities for each room, TV, mini-bar etc. are they the same for each kind of room?
Sari: In general it’s the same for every room, we don’t have any mini-bar inside just a refrigerator. For the Suite rooms we also provide slippers, for the Superior rooms not.

Baliblog: So I’ll bring my slippers if I’m staying in a Superior room.
Sari: Also for the Suites room we provide a bathrobe whereas for the other rooms we provide a kimono.

Baliblog: How many swimming pools do you have?
Sari: We have one. We also have 3 restaurants and 1 pool-bar.

Baliblog: Do you have 24 hour restaurant?
Sari: No we have 24 hour Room Service. We have 1 restaurant open until 1am.

Baliblog: So your guests are split between Australians and Europeans depending on the season?
Sari: Yes.

Baliblog: If you had to pick a couple of other groups within those groups. Honeymooners, families, young people, old people etc. which group do you think the hotel is best for?
Sari: Actually the best one is for couples and the #1 is for families and then honeymooners.

Baliblog: What do you think is the highlight of this hotel? What do you think is the big reason for people to stay in this hotel.
Sari: We have very personal service like in a small hotel. We have a quiet hotel for somewhere located in the middle of Kuta especially later in the evening. Our motto is ‘Welcome to a familiar face in an exotic island’. That’s why, its our personal service.

Baliblog: What about the location. The hotel is very close to the airport and to go to the restaurants in Kartika Plaza is maybe 5 minutes? You can walk there in 5 minutes.
Sari: Yes.

Baliblog: I guess this area is fairly quiet at night.
Sari: Yes its very quiet that’s why mostly all the families have a comment that its quiet but very easy to access the Kuta area for the live music, the nightlife everything. When they come back to the hotel it has a different atmosphere.

Baliblog: Balihai Resort & Spa is located on the beach. How long is your beach front?
Sari: I’m not so sure but I think its about 100 meters.

Baliblog: You have a Spa and Fitness Center?
Sari: Yes we have a Fitness Center and a tennis court. We also have a Spa including Beauty Salon. We have a Kiddie Club which is free for children aged 4-12. It is open from 8.30am-5pm.

Baliblog: Do you put on any special events like Balinese dancing?
Sari: Every night we have a nightly buffet and then every Tuesday and Saturday night we have a Balinese performance. We change it and one week we might have a Kecak dance, the next week the Ramayana an another day we’ll have the Frog dance. Every night we have a quartet band starting at 7pm in the restaurant and moving around.

Balihai Resort & Spa –
Tuban
, Bali, Indonesia

hotel_front_balihai_200_200.jpg

The Balihai Hotel in Tuban is located within a 5-10 minute drive from the airport and located on the beach at Pantai Segara.

The hotel is a decent size place with a security post at the front of the parking area. The spacious parking area sits in front of the main lobby which lies under a natural bamboo / alang alang roof and is heavily decorated with Balinese carvings and artwork.

The lobby has comfortable seating and at the rear of the lobby is a fully open air section affording views of the swimming pool and the ocean.

Off to the left is a jewelry shop and other service places including a small one room Business Center.

Looking directly back from the lobby the rooms are set off to the left side in 3 storey blocks. The Superior rooms are closest to the main building and face the ocean. The Deluxe rooms and Family rooms are closer to the beach and face the garden. There are other rooms directly facing the ocean in 2 story blocks.

I got to check out the only available room which was a Superior room. The bed was decent and the bathroom looked clean with bathtub and shower. The rooms come with TV, refrigerator, AC, writing desk, lamp, telephone. The rooms are a decent size and feel comfortable, no nasty surprises at all.

The balcony to the Superior room overlooked the swimming pool and had a couple of rattan chairs. The décor in the room is rather plain but the dark wood furniture makes up for it.

The swimming pool is large and located close to the beach. The large pool-bar is operating as it the pizzeria. Loungers and mats are provided.

A kids playground is located to the right of the pool.

The beach front outside the hotel feels fairly quiet with the main part of Pantai Segara further south and Kuta Beach further north. There are beach vendors outside but they cannot enter the hotel grounds and didn’t have the bite of a real Kuta Beach vendor.

Underneath the lobby is the Mawar Cafe restaurant serving International Cuisine. This restaurant has 3 sections (totally air-con, outside under roof and totally outside.

One of the nice things about the gardens is they are well kept and have some large palm trees, which have had the coconuts removed to prevent them from dropping on you.

There is a bale structure providing garden massages and a kids playground is located outside near the pool.

The Fitness Center is a decent size and had exercise bikes and the standard weight machines.

Location:
The BaliHai Hotel is located on Pantai Segara in Tuban. The hotel is on the beach and is 5 minutes from the airport. The shopping of Kuta Square and Jl. Legian is a 5-10 minute walk and the nightlife of Kuta is about a 10-15 minute walk or quick taxi ride.

Atmosphere:
Walking into the hotel it feels quite impressive. Very clean, great lobby roof with a ton of Balinese carvings and artwork. The place is kept clean and the staff all wear traditional clothing.

This is a 4 Star hotel and had the extras, Business Center, Tennis court, jewelry shop etc. that a resort will have.

The central garden area and pool area feels somewhat busy with families from Australia enjoying themselves.

The beach area feels rather quiet and I hear the hotel itself is quiet at night.

Luxury level:
This 4 Star hotel has decent rooms with amenities such as AC, telephone, TV, refrigerator, writing desk, bathtub, hot water. The hotel is very well kept and the terraces and balconies are attractive with wood paneling and flower boxes.

The pool is large as is the pool-bar and the restaurant looks like a quality place able to handle large numbers.

What makes this hotel unique?
This hotel is unique because it is located so close to the airport and offers beach front accommodation at a high level.

Weird stuff:
Finding your way around can be a bit weird. I followed sign s to the Spa and Fitness Center and couldn’t find them.

Staff Friendliness:
My guide Sari was very friendly and helpful. I got responses and good reactions from the staff at the pool and in one of the restaurants. Friendliness is supposed to be one of their main selling points.

Why would you stay here?
I would stay here if I wanted a place with a beachfront and high level of amenities that was as close to the airport as possible, allowing me to enjoy every moment of my vacation.

Why would you stay somewhere else?
I would stay somewhere else if I wanted to escapee the high volume family environment and also if I wanted a more affordable place.

Noise levels:
During the day music is played around the swimming pool, though not obnoxious. The street outside is not particularly busy and so noise at night will not be a problem. Most of the international flights come in between 12pm – 4pm and so won’t affect people at night.

Amenities:
Each room has a Private Balcony or Terrace, IDD telephone, individually controlled AC, private bath, shower, Hair Dryer, refrigerator, in-room safe, tea & coffee maker.

How does the rooms feel?
The Superior room feels reasonably large and clean. Décor is very simple and the bed / furniture is of a good quality.

Bathrooms come with bathtub, hot water and are clean.
