This is a budget class older hotel located on a busy street in the heart of tourist centric Kuta. The street outside features Balinese handicraft shops and leads to Jl. Kartika Plaza with restaurants and bars.

30 rooms come in Standard and Delux, 15 of each.

The front of the hotel features a typical tourist style restaurant with bar. The restaurant sits under a natura bamboo / alang alang roof and has enough seating for 50 people.

The reception is directly behind the restaurant and has a lounge area with a bamboo couch and chairs.

The rooms are accessed via a side alley that is adjacent to the restaurant. The rooms are situated around a rectangular swimming pool and come in 2 and 3 storey blocks.

Each room has either a porch or balcony with chairs and a table. Furniture looks old and there seems to be a ‘‘mix and match’ thing going on here with the furniture not being consistent.

It is obvious that this hotel has been around a long time and has seen busy times. The whole place really needs a complete renovation and I won’t bother to list all the dents, dings and chipped paint/tile work. I didn’t find the cleanliness at a very high level.

The staff are sweet and are doing their best. I talked to Ayu, one of the senior staff ho has been here for 14 years. I asked her what the highlight of the hotel was and she said “Just enjoy.” I also spoke to 2 younger staff were busy cleaning, again very friendly.

The Standard room I viewed reminded my of a guesthouse of Poppies II. The Delux was better but the décor and bathroom were not that impressive.

All rooms come with AC, fridge and bathtub with hot water.

Location:
The Agung Segara is located on Jl. Bakung Sari in Kuta which is in the heart of the ‘package tourist scene’. The street is a busy one way and is lined with Balinese handicraft shops, leading to Jl. Kartika Plaza 100 meters further on which has restaurants and bars.

The Agung Segara is 300 meters from Kuta Beach and a 2 minute walk to the shopping delights of Kuta Square.

Atmosphere:
The atmosphere in this hotel is of a place that is ticking over before its next overhaul. You can sense that things are frayed at the edges and that the decline in tourism has hurt them. The few tourists I saw seemed happy enough though.

The Agung Segare restaurant is called ‘Sendok’ and is open daily from 8am - 11pm. The menu is in English, German, Chinese and Japanese.

The menu features a wide selection of choices including Breakfast, sandwiches and burgers, pasta, pizza, European favourites, steak, seafood, Asian food, vegetarian, Balinese & Indonesian food.

Luxury Scale:
This definitely isn’t a luxury place. I’d describe it as an older guest house with a pool. Rooms have a few things to make up for the tatty appearance like AC, hot water, TV and fridge.

Staff Friendliness:
The staff I spoke to were very friendly and included one member who has worked at the Agung Segara for 14 years and 2 others who have just finished school.

Weird stuff:
I’d say the general tatty appearance was the weirdest thing about this hotel. Furniture that doesn’t match, tiles that were broken, dust on the couch etc.

What makes this hotel unique?:
This hotel is unique because of its age and it location. An older hotel that sits close to the tourist scene action. The beach, shopping and nightlife of Kuta are all close by.

Why would you stay here?:
I’d stay here if all the other hotels were full or if I was doing a review. I’d say for a short term visitor who wants the package tourist scene right there along with a pool and in house restaurant this could work.

Why would you stay somewhere else?:
I’d stay somewhere else if I wanted better value for money. I’d also stay somewhere else if I felt the price was too steep and wanted a guest house or if I had time to check out other similar standard hotels in the area.

Noise levels:
Although the hotel is located on a busy street th rooms extend back from the road. They get quieter the further back you go.

Proximity to action:
This hotel is close to the Kuta action. Local handicrafts are right outside, bars and restaurants are within a 2 minutes walk and so is the shopping. The beach is a 5 minute walk.

How does the room feel?:
The rooms feels like a guest house with some extras like AC, TV and fridge.

Amenities:
Hotel features a restaurant with bar and a nice pool. Rooms come equipped with TV, AC, fridge, bath tub with hot water.
