penestenan072105.jpgPenestenan is a small village to the west of Ubud. These days you can think of it as as extension of Ubud. Penestenan is reached by heading west along Jl. Raya Ubud in the direction of Campuhan, then taking the sharp left up the hill. Penestenan is famous for painters and beaded purses. The main road, Jl. Penestenan winds thorugh town then swings down towards Sayan. On the way out of town it passes a small gang (alley) which I checked out. Some cute little guest houses were located there.

There were a couple of other places down this small gang but I didn't get to all of them. A bit more expensive than the places right downtown, Jl. Penestenan is really kampung, that is, right next to the pigs and chickens. Its good to have a motorbike, or at least a bicycle if you are going to stay here. I enjoyed the small stream that flows past all these places.

Cathleen,

For these articles about guest houses I feel its important to give you a few photos on each place, as you can make up your mind much better as to what place suits you.

G’Day Nick,

I agree with Cathleen. You are doing an excellent job mate of giving those visiting a good choice.
