A few Bali related item in Kuta Bali

It is mid February and the weather here is steamy and hot. Sunshine galore throughout the day with late evening showers.

I dropped Ika off at Ade Rai Hammerhead gym in Legian where she works. The little mother to be wants to stop all that nasi padang turning into flab and is embarking on a new workout campaign. She likes to ride the stationary bike, walk on the treadmill and plays with some of the machines.

Hammerhead in located on Jl. Legian just south of Jl. Melasti. I pay 165,000rp per month. Prices are different for locals and for gender.

The gym has a few stairmaster type machine and treadmills plus a lot of decent weight equipment. My problem is the place is so damn hot, its like doing weights in a sauna. I would melt on the treadmill.

At home a couple of hours later we picked a ripe papaya off one of our trees and I cut it up. The tree was one of the younger ones and has a dozen papayas that will be ready in a couple of weeks, plus another dozen of apple sized ones that will take longer. It tasted pretty good with no seed either.

Ika noticed the ripest papaya had dissappeared recently and we were trying to figure out who took it since the painters, Made the maintainence man and Wayan the pembantu had all been in the garden. Ika questioned Wayan who admitted she took it, but said it was already on the ground. A fellow I met the other day from England told me a funny thing. He said a Balinese guy had told him all Balinese households have a long stick to steal the fruit of their neighbors trees. I thought this was pretty funny and I am sure it is not really the case.

My mission to revue hotels today took a different direction than planned. The Wana Villas and Beach Resort in Canggu (between Seminyak and Tanah Lot) was my intended destination and after finding it buried in the rice paddies I parked and was on my way inside when the security man stopped me. He asked where I was going and I said inside. He told me I could not as the hotel was closed for renovations, lasting a few months! So if you are planning to stay in Canggu the Wana Villas is out of action.

Re-tooling I went to the Subaliku off of Jl. Raya Kerobokan. Another very difficult place to find, it is located down a small gang (Gang Jepun ) which has recently been named which itself lies on a turning ( Jl. Beraban) that has had its name changed. The place can only fir 20 guests and is perfect for a quiet family or couple close to some fine restaurants.

Here at Internet Outpost in Kuta I got a message from Deb (DDLEGS from LA). She is in Bali and I look forward to meeting her again.

Here is an article from the Jakarta Post that indicates the attitudes to criminals in this part of the world. If that incident had occured in Bali probably a dozen people would of helped and nobody would be arrested.

The other day I discovered Bali Deli on Jl. Kunti in Seminyak sells Kettle Chips, the organic tortilla chips from Salem Oregon. So right now I am logging off to pick up a pack before going home for some more typing. My blue corn tortilla chips and salsa will make me think I am in Oregon. A slice of lime in my Bintang will give me the illusion I am in California.
