Australia steps up its travel warning against Indonesia

Like recurring event, Australia has stepped up its travel warning on Indonesia. This time the warning says “We advise you to reconsider your need to travel to Indonesia, including Bali, at this time due to the very high threat of terrorist attack.” It goes on to say “We continue to receive a stream of reporting indicating that terrorists are in the advanced stages of planning attacks against Western interests in Indonesia against a range of targets, including places frequented by foreigners.”

Indonesia is going after terrorists and their recent killing of bomb maker Azahari led them to evidence that suggested the Bali Bomb memorial service was considered for attack, as well as fresh attacks over Christmas and New Years.

Sometimes I can be a hard head, but I don’t have to be told a hundred times that there are guys planning to blow up the neighborhood. Living half a block from the main party street in Seminyak I don’t feel in more danger than anyone else.
I will however probably avoid partying on that street during the festive season. I’d like to take Ika and Jevon out to East Bali and enjoy a quiet time with them. Of course I eat at warungs on Jl. Dhyana Pura all the time, so am not totally out of the picture. If I do happen to be in the vicinity of a terrorist event, my reaction would be to hit floor, cover my face and escape through the back.

For people coming to Bali I’d say your chances of getting caughtup in something drop to almost zero if you stay out of high profile place at night.

And even then, it’s just fate, if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time… The chance of you being in an attacked place on that particular moment is small, but very sad though to know the possibility exists.
