Cody Mecklenburg recently contacted me via Baliblog and wanted to meet. After some phone number mistakes we managed to meet up at Cafe Moka in Seminyak for a sandwich. Cody is a young guy from Oklahoma who is relocating to Bali after living in Thailand, Argentina and other places. He has his own online business which means as long as he can find a decent connection he's mobile.
We chatted about Bali and travel in general and Cody told me that in his hometown, which numbers less than 5,000 people, his travels make the front page of the local newspaper. He said the islands in Thailand were nice but the internet connection was very bad and there was no surf, so Bali was the obvious choice. Cody's business is to do with appraising domain names and his business partner will be coming out in a few days. He has only ever been on a day trip to Canada and Mexico, so will have a bit of adjusting to do. Cody has already rented a killer pad out in Canggu and told us he was super happy because it has a TV set for him to plug his PlayStation into.
I offered to go down to Kuta Beach with them sometime soon and let them try out my yellow toboggan, seeing as how neither of them have surfed before. Nursing a bit of sunburn Cody is wearing his jacket while riding now, which is smart. The sun out here is fierce and often people don't bother to use sunscreen, long sleeves or a hat. Cody is off to buy a Stavol voltage regulator this afternoon so his equipment doesn't get fried by the fluctuating electric current. I think its cool how he can choose where to live and has a ready made income straight away. Using the internet should be a priority for anyone planning to move to Bali.
It will be interesting to see how Cody gets on out here in the Wild East.
