Garuda Indonesia looking to excel in the long term

Indonesia's national carrier Garuda Indonesia has just signed a deal with the Boeing Corporation in New York for a fleet of the latest airliners. The deal is worth $2 billion which is nothing to shake your head at.

Garuda operates a fleet of 60 aircraft serving 30 domestic cities as well as 24 international destinations. The new aircraft, 28 in total which include the new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, will make the longer flights more comfortable. The Dreamliner pressurizes the cabin at a higher pressure than other planes (most planes pressurize the cabin to about 10,000ft) and this will lessen the effects of jet-lag and the usual swelling associated with flying.

Garuda currently flies to destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. I have flown them from London and the service was okay, the plane was a nice big jumbo. Also Garuda is my usual carrier to Singapore, costing $100 less than Singapore Airlines. The new planes won't start to come in till 2011 but it's good to see the company has a long term plan.
