Anik: Only 20 minutes.
Baliblog: How many rooms does the Pelangi have?
Anik: We have 89 rooms, consisting of 78 Superior rooms, 6 Deluxe rooms and 4 Super Deluxe rooms. We have 1 suite but currently it is occupied by our owner.

Baliblog: So the Pelangi is an independent hotel?
Anik: Yes.
Baliblog: Let’s see the rooms extend directly back from the lobby towards the beach in parallel 2 storey blocks?
Anik: Yes. The Superior rooms are on the top and the bottom close to the lobby. The Deluxe, Super Deluxe and Suite rooms are closer to the swimming pool.
Baliblog: How would you describe this hotel to someone who had never seen it?
Anik: This hotel is a newer one in semi Balinese style.
Baliblog: I like the colors used in the hotel and it looks new and clean.
Anik: Yes.
Baliblog: Is Balinese style the same as Javanese style?
Anik: No, but it’s similar.
Baliblog: The pots that decorate the lobby are they from Bali?
Anik: No they are from Lombok. The stained glass windows in the lobby are Balinese and show wayang style images.
Baliblog: How many years has this hotel been open?
Anik: Almost 3 years.
Baliblog: What is your occupancy level?
Anik: Our occupancy is around 90%
Baliblog: Who are your customers?
Anik: Our market is Australian, European and Asian, like Japanese and maybe only 10% from Indonesia.
Baliblog: What is your demographic? Old people, young people, families etc. ?
Anik: They are a mixed market. We have many repeater guests coming here and tomorrow we have a wedding ceremony.
Baliblog: Can you organize the wedding ceremony?
Anik: Yes that’s right.
Baliblog: If you had to recommend this hotel for one group who would you choose?
Anik: Honeymoon is good but it is good for every group because our hotel is quiet and the area is not noisy like Kuta. We have access to the beach.
Baliblog: I noticed by the swimming pool you have loud music and maybe young people like that.
Anik: Yes.
Baliblog: Do you have special services like a shuttle bus?
Anik: Yes we have a shuttle bus to the center of Kuta which is free of charge and then we have baby sitting which is $5 per hour and we have a Business Center.
Baliblog: How big is your Business Center?
Anik: Not so big, only internet.
Baliblog: Do you have a FAX machine?
Anik: FAX machine we have but it is in my office.
Baliblog: Do you have post office here?
Anik: Yes.
Baliblog: Do you have special entertainment?
Anik: Every Saturday and Tuesday we have a Balinese quartet and they play in the restaurant.
Baliblog: What are the main selling points of the hotel Pelangi?
Anik: The hotel is close to the beach and is not too noisy like Kuta.

HELLO TO ALL THE STAFF AT PELANGI HOTEL, DAYU, ANGER, ARSA, IRVA AND THE REST OF THE STAFF. WE STAYED WITH THE HOTEL 15TH-27TH JUNE LAST YEAR AND FOUND IT AMAZING, WE LOVED THE SERVICE AND THE STAFF WERE VERY FRIENDLY. MY DAD JAMIE KENNEALLY IS COMING OVER AGAIN IN 2 WEEKS TIME TO STAY WITH YOU AGAIN AS HE FOUND IT MOST PLEASENT. WE HOPE YOU GET THIS AND PASS IT ONTO THE STAFF, WE HOPE TO GET BACK THERE VERY SOON, WE LOVE BALI AND PELANGI MADE IT EVEN BETTER.

I will not comment on the hotel’s itself (its ok but not more than that) but on the racket going out just outside with “wild taxis”, a racket which seems to be supported by the hotel’s staff. I was there a few weeks ago with colleagues. We live and work in Indonesia and were there for professional reasons. The first morning, going to Denpasar, we asked for a taxi at the reception and were told that there were none but that there were cars just outside doing the job. Obviously the price was much higher than a standard meter taxi, even higher than the ones at the airport, but ok, better cars too. Still, not much of a choice when you are in a hotel in a dead end street controlled by racketeers. Why racketeers? In Denpasar we got a taxi, nice chap, trying to earn his life. In the evening I arranged for him to pick me up at the hotel at 8pm. No problem. The next morning he was supposed to come at 9:30 to take us to the airport. At the said time he called and said that guards were not letting him past the gate of the hotel. I asked the reception to have the door open and they said that taxis were not allowed. I then wanted to go to the street to hop in the taxi and told him so but he was already gone. He had not waited because the “wild taxis” outside were insulting him, threatening him and starting to bang on his car. Of course if the hotel had let him pass the gate, this would not have happened, which leads me to conclude that the hotel is accomplice of this racket. I was by then quite upset and asked how we would get to the airport (excluded of course to take one of these thieves). After a while the day manager arrived and wanted to talk about it in his office. Time was running and I told him to find us a car to go asap to the airport, free of charge. Which he did! He even sat behind the wheel of the hotel minivan as the driver was running an errand… Don’t tell me that the hotel did not feel in the wrong! So there you are. The front staff of this hotel (and I know many others do it too), not only get some extra money in their pocket with this racket they allow but do not let honest taxi drivers to do their work. It is true that after one more series of bomb attacks in Bali tourism has seriously reduced, but attitudes such as that will not help in the long run to get tourists to trust this island again.
Pelangi Hotel -
Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia
Located on the beach in Seminyak the Pelangi Hotel is 30 minutes from the airport. The hotel feels quit modern and reasonably luxurious with a large lobby featuring stone pillars and decorated with large traditional Balinese pots.
Reception is to the right as you walk in and to the rear of the lobby are chairs overlooking an impressive waterfall area and pond.
The lobby bar is located to the rear left of the lobby with a small arrangement of tables and chairs.
Staff at reception were friendly and joked with me about my motorbike helmet.
A bellman named Agung escorted me around the property and told me after working in the hotel for 3 years he thinks the Pelangi is a good hotel.
The pool is located in the back of the hotel next to the beach. While rather small the pool looks very nicely designed and has a pool bar. Loud music was playing when I was there which people may like or dislike depending on their preference.
Next to the pool is the 2 storey restaurant which is open on 3 sides providing plenty of ocean breeze. Dining can be inside or outside, upstairs or downstairs.
The Rama Beach Front Restaurant serves a selection of Indonesian favourites as well as pizza, pasta and burgers for reasonable price (nasi goreng is 16,500rp and medium Supreme pizza is 28,500rp).
I noticed many of the guests were Australian and get the Pelangi attracts many Australian guests.
Restaurant is open 24 hours with a breakfast menu too.
Rooms extend back from the rear of the lobby towards the ocean in parallel 2-storey blocks. The rooms are accessed via an inside passageway which is clean and pleasant. The color scheme used for the passageway is a combination of grey tiles for the for and a warm brown for the walls. These combined with spaces between the pilars and plants create a welcoming / relaxing atmosphere.
All the rooms face onto a central garden which is narrow and isn’t really a garden in my view. Lower level rooms have a terrace and 2nd story rooms have a balcony which is neat and equipped with rattan table and chairs. This area is okay for sitting and sipping a coffee but might be a little close for comfort if all your neighbors had the same idea.
I talked to 2 young guys who were staying at the hotel who said it was ?fantastic’. I asked them what they liked about it and they said ?everything’. I asked what they’d change and they said having pool-side ?bales’ would be great. They agreed that the terrace / balcony area seemed a bit cramped.

Pelangi Hotel is located at the end of Jl. Dhyana Pura in Seminyak and is 25 minutes from the airport.
Seminyak is a classier less intense neighborhood than Kuta and affords visitors more space in a quieter area.
Located on the beach guests at the Pelangi can walk out of their room past the pool right on to the sand.
Jl. Dhyana Pura itself is a hub for Seminyak nightlife with many bars and restaurant on the section close to Jl. Seminyak. The Pelangi is very close to Gado Gado, one of Seminyak’s best restaurants.
Atmosphere:
Walking in the front door of the Pelangi there is a certain grandeur. The design of the floor and pillars is in semi modern style with plenty of fresh air flowing through. The marble floors give a feeling of solidity as well as the large stone pillars.
The decorations are from Lombok and Bali and help to create a modern / Balinese feeling. Walking through the hallways one can see effort has been made to make these areas attractive and welcoming with warm color scheme and plants.
The pool is well designed with a beautiful ocean view and this creates a relaxing and fun atmosphere. I don’t get the impression that the Pelangi attracts resort type guests who want everything provided but does attract everyday people who like a modern, clean place with some extras.
What makes this hotel unique?
The Pelangi Hotel is unique because it is a modern, attractive hotel located on the beach in Seminyak close to trendy bars and restaurants. This hotel attracts and caters for all age groups.
Luxury level:
The level of luxury is decent given the limited space. The hotel feels new and clean. Rooms and bathrooms are nicely designed.
Weird stuff:
The top floor of the restaurant seems strangely empty. The space would seem to be perfect for a dinner or cocktail party.
Staff friendliness:
The front desk staff and the Sales Exec. Anik were very friendly and my motorbike helmet took one ladies fancy very much.
Why would you stay here?:
I’d stay here if I wanted a clean, modern hotel on the beach in Seminyak. Families can feel comfortable here because the hotel has a restaurant, pool and offers baby sitting. Couples will like the pool and pool-bar with music adding energy to the place. Older people will enjoy the comfortable rooms, quiet walks on the beach and the breezy ocean facing restaurant.
Why would you stay somewhere else?
I’d stay somewhere else if I wanted to save money, for example someone on a RTW trip might fall into this category. If I wanted to be in the middle of tourist crazy Kuta and its ?well drinks’ I’d stay down there also. If I needed the total ?resort effect’ with 5 restaurants, 3 pools and ?personal everything’ then I’d stay in Nusa Dua.
Noise level:
Noise is minimal as the end of Jl. Dhyana Pura doesn’t receive much traffic. The only noise would be from the poolside bar and the waves.
How does the room feel?
The rooms are clean and modern. Bathrooms are pleasant because it’s not the same old white tile routine, the colors used offer a change. The décor in the rooms isn’t particularly Balinese but is simple. I’d say you’ll get a comfortable clean room with some amenities.

I would recommend the pelangi hotel.it would suit someone looking for a reasonably quiet holiday and a little away from the kuta/legian crowds.the beachfront location is good. they do a great breakfast and good to sit and watch the ocean while eating.the pool is fantastic and constantly flows with water. the staff are very friendly and helpful. the spa/sauna facility is first class. rooms are good with a fair space and big tv. whilst staying there we met a lot of regulars whom come back year after year.
