Bali Mandira Hotel & Spa -
Legian, Bali, Indonesia

The Mandira is located at the end of Jl. Yudistira in the Padma area of Legian close to the beach. Getting from the airport takes about 20 minutes.
The hotel has security at the entrance to the parking area. The lobby is small and not intimidating. Outside the lobby area is a Balinese ?candi bentar’ split gate and a temple.
Rooms in the hotel are in single storey cottages and 2-3 storey blocks. They are well equipped and look clean. The gardens are very well cared for and feature some large banana trees and other tropical plants.
The atmosphere is very quiet compared to some of the other hotels in the are and I think this hotel would be ideal for older / retired people and families who want a quiet place to relax by the beach and enjoy good food. The proximity to the shopping and tourist fun stuff of Legian means you won’t have to walk far for a change of pace.
The 2 restaurants over look the beach and are places you’d actually want to have dinner unlike some other hotel restaurants.
The Spa at the Mandira is small but offers a selection of services ranging from Asian massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, facials, pedicures and manicures.
For me probably the most impressive part of this hotel is the beach front section. There is a 100-meter section which borders the private beach-road which has a well groomed lawn complete with recliners and shades.
The 2 restaurants, the Parasol and the Celagi both face the beach. The Parasol is Moroccan style (grilled salmon medallion is 69,000rp) and small with an outside area overlooking the ocean. The Celagi serves more traditional Indonesian (nasi goreng is 37,000rp ) and western food ( grilled fish fillet is 47,000rp) and overlooks the lower pool. Adjacent to the lower swimming pool which seems popular with kids is the upper level pool complete with elegant staircase and unobstructed view of the ocean.
There is plenty of room around the pool and on the grass area, which also has a bar and pizza hut.
The larger restaurant looks great with wooden tables and chair and sits under a large natural bamboo / alang-alang roof. The place has a very tropical feel with bamboo shutters.
Location:
The Mandira is located on Jl. Yudistira in Legian and is about 20 minutes from the airport. The hotel is very close to the beach and only 100 meters from the busy shopping / nightlife area of Jl. Melasti and a 1 minute walk to Jl. Legian.
Rooms are simple and clean. Cottages have a tile roof and are made of red brick. Doors ways and walls are decorated with cement carvings in Balinese style.
Each room has a fridge, TV, AC, security box. Outside is a terrace or balcony with 2 wooden chairs and a table.
Atmosphere:
The Mandira has a quiet low key atmosphere in the front part of the hotel and the grounds containing the rooms. I felt like the hotel had been around for a while and the tidy brick bungalows and manicured gardens are very peaceful. This doesn’t seem like party hotel in any way but things liven up closer to the beach with 2 restaurants, 2 pools and a pleasant area to relax close to the beach.
What makes this hotel unique?
This hotel is unique because it is very close to the beach in Legian and also the shopping and nightlife while being a quiet tranquil hotel.
Luxury level:
Rooms are neat and the closer to the beach you get the more the place feels like a better hotel. Grounds are very neat. I’d say the luxury level is mid-range, nothing fancy but very nice.
Weird stuff:
The larger palm trees have numbers painted on them in red paint, to help the guests figure out where they are.
Staff Friendliness:
The staff seemed quite friendly and a few times people asked me if I needed help.
Why would you stay here?
I would stay here if I wanted a quiet place, close to the beach and also close to the shopping and nightlife in Legian. I think older people and family groups would love this place at it offer space to relax, 2 restaurants, a pizza bar and decent levels of cleanliness and comfort.
Why would you stay somewhere else?
I would stay somewhere else if I wanted to go budget and stay in a guest house in Kuta. If I wanted more of a party hotel I might go for somewhere like the Bounty in Kuta or Jayakarta in Legian. If luxury was a priority I might head for Nusa Dua.
Noise levels:
The noise levels here are quite low considering the proximity to nightlife.
Proximity to the action:
Shopping, art market and restaurants are a 2-minute walk away. Bali Rock on Jl. Melasti is 3 minutes walk.
How does the room feel?:
The 117 rooms come in Superior, Family Tower Wing, Deluxe Cottage, Cottage Suite, Mandira Suite. The rooms feel tidy and clean. They are equipped with a TV, bathtub and shower, fridge, security box and telephone.
Amenities:
The 2 beach side restaurants, 2 swimming pools and Spa mean you will be able to relax and enjoy your time at the Mandira. Plenty of sunbathing space too.
