The Bali Agung Village in Seminyak is located close to he beach next to emerald rice paddies affording guests a naturally realxing environment. Bali Agung Village is a small, but personal hotel done in a traditional style with thatched roofed cottages and artwork. The nightlife of Seminyak is a 5 minute walk away.

  • Atmosphere
The Sales manager of the Bali Agung Village Ferry, told me that a party of guests once applauded when they pulled up in the airport van. The Bali Agung village is a small hotel compared to many of the nicer places in Bali, but it has a very relaxing atmosphere. It has been created in the style of a king’s house with the large roof covering the lobby and restaurant and the room either in a 2-storey construction or cottages inside their own mini compound.

The natural products used in construction include, alang alang and bamboo for the roofs and a special mud from a village near Ubud to make the bricks in traditional style.

Guests usually find the atmosphere here quite condusive to relaxing.

  • Location
The Bali Agung Village is located off of busy Jalan Dhyana Pura in Seminyak which is a 15 minute drive from Kuta and 30 minutes from the airport.

The hotel is situated down a tiny lane which offers a pleasant break from the busy shopping and restaurant scene of Jalan Seminyak. Only a 5 minute walk to the beach and 5 minutes to the great nightlife of Jalan Dhyana Pura the hotel also back onto paddy fields for that tranquil oasis guests dream about.

The shopping of Kuta is a straight shot down Jalan Legian.

  • Luxury Scale
The Bali Agung Village has an elegant open side lobby and small restaurant, comfortable pool and lush gardens. The rooms are fairly simple but are comfortable. Great care has been made to the traditional aspect of the hotels design rather than making it a modern shiny palace.

  • Staff Friendliness
My host, Ferry, was very relaxed and friendly and the staff are also that way. There are not many rooms so they have a chance to get to know the guests.

  • Weird Stuff
The lobby has an absolutely gorgeous two tired bamboo roof and couches made from dried banana leaves.

  • What makes this hotel unique?
The Bali Agung Village is unique because it is a small hotel that has paid attention to traditional styles and design. Many traditional materials have been used in the hotles construction. The location offers access to the beach, access to the nightlife of Jalan Dhyana Pura and the beach.

  • Why would you want to stay here?
I would stay here if I wanted to be located in Seminyak which is a classier area than Kuta, but with much more going on than Nusa Dua. The Bali Agung Village is a perfect place to relax in traditional surroundings with the rice paddies right next door. The beach is a 5 minute walk Honeymooners will find this a romantic choice and older people will enjoy the quiet. Party minded folks will love the access to the nightlife just around the corner.

  • Why would you want to stay somewhere else?
If I wanted a resort to get away completely from everydaylife I might go for a hotel in Nusa Dua. If I wanted a more budget option closer to the Kuta shopping scene I’d probably go for a hotel in Legian or Kuta.

    Manager: Ferry Irawan

The Sales manager of Bali Agung Village is Ferry Irawan from Medan Sumatra and has lived in Bali for 10 years and worked at the hotel or 2 years.

He told me that the hotel was built in 1992 and renovated in March 2001.

I Bali Agung Village is unique because of its design and materials used extensively around the hotel. Ferry said that the bricks used for the rooms are traditional mud bricks made from Gatataro, a special mud from a village in Ubud. Being a natural material it degrades over time but is great for the guests.

Ferry said the bamboo used for the main lobby roof and the cottages is also a special kind as is especially straight and strong. This is combined with alang alang, a fiberous material that is packed to form the roofs insulation.

Also present in the lobby were couches made from dried banana leaves.

Ferry said the hotel was designed in a ‘kings house’ style with an impressive balinese roof covering the lobby and restaurant and smaller structures for in the gorunds for the rooms and cottages.

I asked Ferry what was special about the hotel’s location and he said it was ‘close to heaven and close to hell’ meaning situated next to tranquil rice paddies and a short distance the direction to the nightlife of Jalan Dhyana Pura. The beach is a 5 minute walk.

He said the best point of the hotel was the atmosphere and said that with the traditional Balinese feel and lush gardens it was very romantic. Yellow lights are used for their calmer effect outside.

I asked what were 3 restaurants close by that he would recommend and he said Made’s Warung on Jalan Seminyak in Seminyak ( Indonesian ), Gateway of India on Jalan Dhyana Pura ( Indian ) and Fabio’s on Jalan Seminyak in Seminyak for Italian.

He also suggested Ku De Ta, Santa Fe and Jaya Pub in Seminyak for drinks.

Ferry said the Bali Agung Village is a good hotel for young people as it is close to the action and quiet. For honeymooners they give special service including arranging breakfast at whatever time they would like.

Older people enjoy the hotel too because they can relax in the pool then go shopping in Kuta and Seminyak, coming back to enjoy the library of books. The hotel provides a free shuttle bus to Kuta Square 5 times a day.

Ferry said Europeans make up about 70% of the guest list with Australian, Japanese and Indonesian tourists making up the rest.

There is a group of Greek businessmen who love the hotel and return often saying that the Bali Agung Village is the perfect place to work from.

The hotel provides easy access to Ubud and Tanah Lot and 5-6 pm is really a magical time as the light fades over the paddy fields next door.

I asked Ferry to say one sentence to people considering staying at the hotel and he said “Bali Agung Village is your home in paradise.”
